31st July is a special day. If you do not know why, look away now because once you read on, the muggle life you know and love will never be the same. Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, The Chosen One, the one who defeated you-know--oh whatever he's dead - the one who defeated LORD VOLDEMORT, was born on this very auspicious day. Unfortunately, in his younger years, Harry didn't have the best birthday celebrations. However, there were a few that were particularly eventful and stuck out. Lets take a look back.
July 31, 1991: Harry's eleventh birthday
"Yer a Wizard Harry" said Rubeus Hagrid and Harry's life changed forever. This was arguably the first day of Harry's new life. Some have gone as far as to say that he was reborn on this day to embrace his destiny. Before Hagrid turned up, Harry found himself in a hut on the rocks with the Dursleys and his only form of celebration was this:
Along with his letter from Hogwarts, he got one of the best birthday gifts he could have asked for...
What followed was a trip to Diagon Alley, with the revelation that Harry was indeed very wealthy and of course, Harry obtaining his wand and beloved owl, Hedwig. Harry's eleventh birthday was definitely his most significant one and probably among the happiest days of his life.
July 31, 1992: Harry's twelfth birthday
On his twelfth Birthday, Harry met someone that that would assist him on his future adventures and save his life on multiple occasions. Of course, on that particular day, first impressions were not very solid, and this is when as a kid, I learned to never judge a book by its cover. If you haven't guessed already, I'm talking about none other than Dobby, the house-elf.
And once again we got quite a bit of humor...
Just when things couldn't get worse for Harry, they got better! If it was Hagrid that rescued him from the Dursleys last time, he could count on his best friend to do it this time...
3) July 31, 1997: Harry's Seventeenth Birthday
After a string of relatively low key and uneventful birthdays came Harry's big seventeenth, which is the equivalent of turning eighteen or twenty-one (depending on what country you live in) in the muggle world. Our boy was to become a man - although to be fair he'd never had much of a chance to have a conventional childhood anyway. Since it was on the eve of Bill and Fleur's wedding, Harry just asked Mrs. Weasley to celebrate with a quiet dinner. Had it just been that, this birthday wouldn't have made this list. However, it was a visit from the then minister of magic, Rufus Scrimgeour that truly made things interesting.
The minister was there to push political propaganda and get Harry to support the ministry in the war against Voldemort. More importantly, he was there to pass on the items that Albus Dumbledore had left Harry, Ron and Hermione in his will. Said items were a snitch, deluminator and an old book. At the time, these seemed trivial but each of them played a crucial role in the hunt for the Horcruxes and Voldemort's eventual downfall.
And there you have it, Harry Potter's three best birthdays! The boy who lived turns 35 today. And its about time to admit that he's the boy who'll live forever. If you haven't already seen drunk Ron Weasley wish Harry a happy birthday, I recommend you do so right away:
Before I forget, a very Happy Birthday also to J.K Rowling, the woman who gave us Hogwarts as a second home and ignited our imaginations. Below is my brief tribute to the franchise I grew up loving, still love, and probably always will love.
I could play the whole thing but Instagram would only let me record so much.
What do you think? Are these three truly Harry's best birthday's or would you change the list? Let me know in the comments below!
