Even though we have to wait until 2017 to get our live-action Guardians fix in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (why is time so long?), Disney XD is offering us a reprieve in the form of the Guardians of the Galaxy Animated Series.

After unveiling the first promo for the series, the first official clip has now also been released by Disney XD. In it, a young Peter Quill meets his kidnapper-slash-future surrogate father, Yondu Udonta...and a few creatures that may or may not be Ravagers.

I like that they're telling this part of Peter Quill's story, because in the first live-action movie, it was a large, formative chunk of his life that was left as one big question mark to us, aside from a few hints here and there as to what happened during that time. They'll probably not spend too much time in Peter's childhood, but it's still a nice way to fill in at least a bit of his backstory.

Veteran voice actor Will Friedle is providing the voice of what we can assume is the adult Peter Quill, and he's no stranger to the Marvel animated universe, having already provided the voice of Star-Lord in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Marvel's Avengers Assemble, and Deadpool's video game voice in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Have you watched any of Disney XD's animated Marvel Universe block? And if not, will you tune in for Guardians of the Galaxy?

Guardians of the Galaxy premieres Saturday, September 26 on Disney XD.
