While the community of anime fans in the West has always been strong and fairly large, few of our favorite shows and comics (or manga) have had as much of an international impact in recent years as Attack on Titan.
Beginning as a hit manga series that has sold over 52 million copies worldwide, Attack on Titan (known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin) has spawned a full-fledged animated television show, two animated films, two upcoming live-action films, a traveling "escape room" stadium event that enjoyed worldwide success, and now, a prequel series that tells the story of what started it all.
The trailer for Attack on Titan: Counterattack Beacon is out, and you can check it out (in Japanese) below:

Attack on Titan: Counterattack Beacon is the story of Zoe Hanji, a rather popular character from Attack on Titan who not only fights in the field, but serves as a brilliant engineer who invented the suspension attack gear -- known as the Omni-Directional Maneuvering Gear -- that helps the Survey Corps defend their homes against the horrifying, near-unstoppable titans.
The miniseries will consist of three 30-minute episodes and will stream on dTV next month, on August 15th. What's more, it ties into the live-action movies, creating something of an on-screen 'universe' that may run along the lines of Marvel and Star Wars' canonical plan for their live-action content.
