There are always those movies that you really enjoy the first time around. It may be due to the incredible action, or a decent concept. But, later on, when you look back on them, they just don’t hold up. It could be because you grew up and got older or you matured in your thinking and analysis. Regardless, these are those movies that with time, make you realize that they aren’t all that great. At least, not as great as you thought they were. Unlike my previous article, the saying “Everyone deserves a second chance” just didn’t work for these movies.

Keep in mind, I do not hate all of the films that I mention, it is just that my liking towards them has been affected big time. So, what are we waiting for? Let us get into the list.

#3 – Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

Bridge to Terabithia was a film that I really loved when I first saw it. It has some decent characters, a grounded story and pretty good performances. Also, the movie does in fact have a very good story arc for our main character in the third act. As a child, it was the first time I was introduced to such mature storytelling for kids. So, yeah I really liked it.

But as time passed by, I decided to watch it again. While I was watching it, I realized how whimsical it really was, particularly in the first two acts. It was Disney doing its Disney things. They build on the character of Leslie, as though she is the most PERFECT character ever. They never take the time to really show how she feels apart for the scenes where it is shown that she is a very imaginative person. But, that’s about as much as we get to know about her. Regardless, I still do like the third act of the film and I still hold a special place for this movie, because it showed me the gateway to mature storytelling. If you want a more detailed analysis, I really suggest that you watch Nostalgia Critic’s review of the film here.

#2 – The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The Dark Knight Rises has had so many debates over the years. Some loved it, liked it or just outright hated it. I was an avid fan of Batman even before Nolan’s movies came out and the fact that The Dark Knight is one of my all-time favourite movies, makes it only natural that I wanted to see this movie. When I first saw it, I ate it up. I loved it (a little religiously, I might add).

But with time, people change and opinions change along with it. When I watched it the second time around, it wasn’t that good. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the movie despite its flaws. But, there are some real problems with this movie. It doesn’t necessarily have a very coherent story. There are many rushed parts throughout the film. Some story lines make no sense at all and to top it all off, the final act is a bit of mess.

#1 – Cars 2 (2011)

If you have read my article that ranks all the Pixar films, then you knew this was coming. Cars 2 was a film I unapologetically loved when I was 14 years old. The fact that people hated it shocked me. I mean the animation was pretty solid. The actions scenes were well done. What was not to love?

Just like The Dark Knight Rises, it was time that changed my opinion. Growing up and re-watching all of the Pixar films just made me realize that this movie had none of the mature storytelling that Pixar is known for. It has none of the fleshed out characters you have come to expect from Pixar and above all, it doesn’t tell a good story.

What did you guys think? Is my list full of crap or is it justified? Feel free to comment below and thanks for reading.
