The first two Spider-Man films that Raimi blessed us with were unforgettable, and will forever go down as some of my favorite movies of all time. Even though Sam Raimi's vision of Spider-Man is long gone, I still think about it. Whether it's pondering what it would've been like if Tobey joined the Avengers, or if he faced off against the Sinister Six. I'm a dreamer, and I know I'm not the only one. So instead of making a status about this on the MP Creators page, I figured why not make it into a post. Now let's nerd out over what could have been in Characters I Would've Loved to See in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
I was really hoping to see my favorite cat burglar in Raimi's Spider-Man. She would have brought a lot of conflict into the life of Peter Parker (like he didn't have enough already), as well as open a lot of doors for more stories to come. As a wee lad, I would have loved to see them connect Black Cat to Captain America, considering in Spider-Man: The Animated Series they obtained their power from the same formula. Now that's wishful thinking.
I know that Electro was introduced in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he was actually one of my top picks for villains to make an appearance in Raimi's Spider-Man. Main reason being Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro was one of my favorite games as a kid. Because of that game, there were so many nights full of headaches, tears, and the typical "You're cheating, I'm Spider-Man, you can't kill me that easily!!"
Aside from the stress caused by the game, it really made me see Electro as a prominent villain, and fed my hopes to someday see him on the big screen. Considering Raimi's Spider-Man was the closest thing to the animated series from the '90s, it would have been an awesome experience to witness classic Spidey go toe-to-toe with a classic villain.
First I'd like to say that I'm glad that the Kingpin of Crime is finally being brought into the now established Marvel Cinematic Universe. I say now established, because he was already introduced in the Daredevil movie that we can all just forget about. Back to the matter at hand, I would have loved to see Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man go up against the Kingpin.
The Kingpin is arguably Spider-Man's most formidable opponent, and could have brought a whole lot of hurt and a whole lot of trouble to Raimi's Spiderverse. A story based loosely off of Back In Black would have been legendary. I actually wouldn't be surprised if we saw that sometime down the line. Also, might I add that Vincent D'Onofrio is doing a wonderful job as the Kingpin. Can't wait to see him and Spidey bring it in for a good 'ol bear hug.
This was the first villain that I was introduced to in Spider-Man: TAS which immediately made him a top candidate for villains that I wanted to see in the original Spider-Man movies. The thought of Tobey's Spider-Man kicking the Lizard into the wall of a sewer makes me sad knowing that it never happened. Seeing him in The Amazing Spider-Man was cool, but just as Electro, I would rather have seen classic Spidey going up against a classic villain; how amazing would that have been? (No pun intended).
