This is a question that I get a lot, "Do you think that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will out do Jurassic World's opening weekend?". And the simple answer is no. I do not think that Star Wars will beat Jurassic's opening. I do have my reasons for thinking this. There are plenty of logical reasons why it won't

First of all just look at the release dates. Jurassic World opened the second weekend of June right in the middle of summer blockbuster season, everyone is going to movies. Star Wars Episode VII on the other hand opens the Friday before Christmas, which means either a) Most people won't have time to go the movies with all the holiday shopping and family dinners. Or b) most people won't have the money to go to the movies because of said holiday shopping.

As it sits right now the highest grossing opening weekend in December is last years "American Sniper" which brought in $89,269,066. Now I do think that Star Wars will beat American Sniper landing somewhere between $100-$120 million. Now compare that to Jurassic World's hugely over performing opening weekend box office of $208,806,270. For Star Wars to beat Jurassic World, Star Wars would have to bring in $209 million the weekend before Christmas and I just don't think that will happen.

Now don't get me wrong I in no way think that Episode VII will bomb. In fact I think that in the long run Episode VII has a very real shot at joining James Cameron's exclusive $2 billion club to point where it could knock Titanic out of second place and even knock down Avatar and become the highest grossing film of all time.

Well that's all I have to say on the matter let me know what you guys think in comments.
