As one might imagine, casting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be a tricky deal--or in any comic movie for that matter. Look at Heath Ledger, originally thought to be a horrible idea for Joker, now he's the definitive one for our time. Or look at Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr. A great idea from the start, nobody can imagine Tony being played by anyone else. And so, fans have been speculating who could play the best Captain Marvel. Pretty much any beautiful actress has been linked to the role, from Natalie Dormer to Katherine Winnick.
But first, who is Captain Marvel?
"An officer in the United States Air Force and Security Chief of a restricted military base...Danvers is caught in the explosion of a Kree device, after being kidnapped... Danvers sustains serious injuries...Danvers resurfaces with superhuman abilities and becomes the hero Ms. Marvel...Carol Danvers initially possessed superhuman strength, endurance, stamina, flight, physical durability, a limited precognitive "sixth sense", and a perfectly amalgamated human/Kree physiology that rendered her resistant to most toxins and poisons. (Wikipedia)."
Okay, we got Kree in the MCU already.
The Current Rumored Front-Runner: Emily Blunt as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers
"Heroic Hollywood’s El Mayimbe was a guest co-host on Meet The Movie Press and was dropping some scoops on the show, on the show it was revealed by the other co-host from Schmoes Know that indeed Emily Blunt has been cast as Captain Marvel. Stating they’ve heard it’s a “done-deal”, while in the same breath stating it was only 'speculation'...To sort of back-up this claim, rumors started back in late 2012 that Marvel Studios had been considering Emily Blunt for the role of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, this was even before their announcement last October that she’d indeed get her solo film in Phase Three. In 2012, the expectation was that she would join the Avengers in the second film, that role would eventually go to Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch instead (Omegaunderground)."
Okay, so she's due for a Marvel role. She could pull off an American Air Force Officer thrust into a intergalactic/superhero debacle. Guardians of the Galaxy showed that audiences can believe heroes in outer space. We know she can pull off being a bad ass.
Or perhaps this has nothing to do with the Kree Empire. In Agents of SHIELD, the Kree already feel that their Inhuman experiments are abominations and need to be destroyed. We also know that the now-destroyed Guest House had a dead Kree, who had been in SHIELD's/Earth's custody for almost 100 years. Could there be some kind of Human/Kree genetic manipulation going on here? It looks like they've been taking pieces off him for years. Perhaps creating a state-sponsored super hero, with alien powers?
Well, what do you think?
