Goon is one of the funniest movies I've seen. It's one of few that have made me genuinely laugh at almost every spoken line in the movie. Doug Glatt is a lovable and friendly guy who you would never expect to beat people up for a living. The cast that was present in Goon helped to provide a great atmosphere where it was just so easy to laugh and observe the mess that is the Hallifax Highlanders. A sequel to the movie Goon, the story about a bouncer he becomes a fighting legend in the hockey rink, is being produced under the title Goon: Last of the Enforcers.
My main concern is that they don't deliver the same type of comedy that was present in the first film. In terms of dialogue, sports movies, this is definitely on par with Shaolin Soccer in terms of how funny it is, but it isn't as absurd or over-the-top. The comedy comes with the dialogue and the personality of each character. They say simple things, although sometimes really weird, that just catch us off-guard.
I have faith that it will be just as great as the first one. Hockey is a sport that I enjoy immensely and it's very exciting to see more than just documentaries being made. Goon has a cult following in the hockey community. It has become part of the culture and I'm very eager to see what's in store for this next film!
