Even though we have already - albeit briefly - seen the character of the Three-Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones at the end of the fourth season's finale (played then by Struan Rodger), that isn't stopping HBO's most acclaimed series from recasting the actor to one they feel will do greater justice to the role.
EW is reporting that veteran stage and screen actor Max von Sydow has been cast as the enigmatic and mystical tutor of Bran Stark, who is, last we checked, well...turning into a tree.
The 86-year-old Swedish actor is a legend in the business, with von Sydow's career spanning six decades and films such as The Exorcist, Dune, Minority Report, and the upcoming [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158) on his resume.
His turn in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones will mark the first time von Sydow will be in a regular television role since 2009's The Tudors, in which he played Cardinal Von Waldburg. His return to the small screen as the Three-Eyed Raven will be a pivotal role and one that will potentially influence much of the future of how the show unfolds.
Game of Thrones Season 6 will return to HBO in April 2016.
