Last week, we perused the family album of Hollywood to remind ourselves of all the twins and triplets that have been sired in the movie industry. However, I'm not talking about identical actors and actresses, I'm talking about two (or more) movies which release in the same year, and seem to be about the exact same thing.

Although we uncovered a heap of near identical movies, it seemed there were still many more hidden within the annals of the silver screen. Many of them were suggested by readers of the original article, so here is your chance to once again vote on which of these look-alike films is actually the best.

Which of these duelling movies deserves to win?

Olympus Has Fallen vs White House Down (2013)

The Similarities: Both of these actions flicks feature terrorists (of various backgrounds) attacking the President in the White House. Cue the POTUS teaming up with a brawny former special forces hero to take down the bad guys and save the day. Although having near identical plots, the tones are slightly different. Olympus Has Fallen was mostly concerned with flag-waving, while White House Down wasn't afraid to crack a few jokes.

Volcano vs Dante's Peak (1997)

The Similarities: Mother Earth gets pissed off at the West Coast and decides to spew forth red hot liquid magma all over the place. It's down to a volcano and disaster expert to save the day, while saving as many locals as possible. I could honestly be talking about either movie right now.

The Prestige vs The Illusionist (2006)

The Similarities: Both are period pieces which feature a skilled illusionist who uses his powers of 'magic' beyond the stage. Furthermore, both of our magicians are also embroiled in some kind of 'murder' mystery which eventually leads us to some pretty weird and unexpected conclusions.

No Strings Attached vs Friends With Benefits (2011)

The Similarities: As you can probably guess by the less than ambiguous titles, both of these romantic comedies feature friends who naively decide to add casual sex to their relationship under the basis it wouldn't change anything. Of course, as you'd expect, that ol' party pooper 'love' eventually starts to creep in and ruin the fun.

These two films are even more confusing when you consider Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis both played two sides of the 'swan princess' in The Black Swan, while Munis is with Ashton Kutcher in real life, although he is with Portman in No Strings Attached.

Day and Knight vs Killers (2010)

The Similarities: Day and Knight and Killers are both action comedies in which an attractive young lady apparently bumps into the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, that man turns out to be a secret agent/assassin. The duo must then navigate being hunted by nefarious agents and ruffians while also falling in love and shooting people in the face.

Observe and Report vs Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)

The Similarities: Observe and Report and Paul Blart: Mall Cop both feature loser mall security guards who aspire to be full blown police officers - although they are held back by medical conditions. They both also fall in love with a mall kiosk vendor and hope to prove themselves as heroes. Unfortunately, in both cases, actual cops step on their toes and stand in their way. Although featuring many similar plot points, Seth Rogen claims they are completely different, and it is fair to say Observe and Report is a much darker comedy.

Platoon vs Full Metal Jacket (1986)*

*Although widely released in 1987, Platoon released in Los Angeles and New York in late 1986.

The Similarities: Both are gritty, dark Vietnam war films which aim to show the dehumanizing and maddening effects of warfare. Neither glorifies or promotes battle, but instead shows the pain of war via dramatic slow-motion deaths.

Independence Day vs The Arrival (1996)

The Similarities: Both feature experts with a vast amount of knowledge about radio communications deciphering messages from aliens. Both films also suggest aliens have previously visited Earth and have been kept in an underground base which has been covered up by a government conspiracy. Ultimately, The Arrival does not feature the big budget invasion featured in Independence Day, although its box office performance at the time of its release was believed to be limited due to the earlier release of Independence Day.

Chasing Liberty vs First Daughter (2004)

The Similarities: Chasing Liberty and First Daughter are both romantic comedies in which the president's daughter tries to break free from the overbearing control of her family and secret service carers. In Chasing Liberty this means running away to Europe and hanging out with hunky guys, while First Daughter features Katie Holmes going to college.

Mission to Mars vs Red Planet (2000)

The Similarities: 2000 was apparently an exciting year of Mars enthusiasts. They got two movies about our nearest neighbor and both were pretty similar. Mission To Mars and Red Planet both show various attempts to colonize Mars, which as you'd expect, go awry. Both also show the discovery of extra-terrestrial life, albeit on differing scales. Interestingly, they both also feature spaceships with the uninspiring name of 'Mars-1'.

The Abyss vs Leviathan vs DeepStar Six vs Lords of the Deep (1989)

The Similarities: If 2000 was about space exploration, 1989 was all about deep sea discovery. The final year of the eighties included many movies set in the depths of the oceans, with the four above constituting perhaps the most similar set of quadruplets. All include some kind of underwater base or submarine, as well as mysterious forces operating in the deep.

Iron Eagle and Top Gun (1986)

The Similarities: Fighter planes, maverick pilots and 1980s music are what define both Iron Eagle and Top Gun. Both films also feature a cool, reckless pilot with a disdain for authority and a penchant for shooting down Russian made fighter jets.
