Disney World has become an icon in the world of entertainment. It is a vacation destination unlike any other in the world. Visitors’ expectations are as high as Space Mountain and Disney rarely disappoints them. This is why the Disney parks are under constant surveillance by people looking to get the latest scoop on what new exciting attractions are on their way.
Recently, Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, FL. has been slowly taken apart piece by piece. It is clear that they have big plans for a major remodel of the diminished park. Exact details haven’t been made public just yet but with the rapidly improving Universal Studios right down the road, it’s a safe bet that Disney will be bringing us some incredible new attractions.
What will those new attractions be? We may find out for sure at the D23 conference in Anaheim, Ca. on August 14-16, but until then, there are two major possibilities:
This is the obvious choice. Hollywood Studios has played host to Disney’s Star Wars Weekends, an event that has become increasingly popular. It’s no secret that people love Star Wars! Disney has taken advantage of it in the past with the Star Tours attraction in Hollywood Studios, but now they have a chance to take it to a new level.
There have been rumors of a completely immersive Star Wars themed land going into the remodeled park, one to rival Universal Studios’ Diagon Alley. It’s rare that Disney is a step behind and has to create attractions to keep up, but that is certainly going on right now. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has become a must see attraction, forcing Disney to raise the bar.
If they are going to try to create something as detailed as the Wizarding World, Star Wars is the perfect property to use. People will flock to the park that gives them a chance to explore the woods of the forest moon of Endor, brave the harsh conditions of Hoth, and gaze upon the vastness of the universe from the Death Star. Heroes we love, villains we hate and events we wish we could experience will bring us all to this potentially out of this world theme park experience!
If you haven’t been to the park in a while you may not be aware of the small section called Pixar Place. This is the home to the fantastically fun Toy Story Midway Mania, a fan favorite attraction that Disney can build around in the future. Given the popularity of the Pixar films, expanding this part of the park seems like a smart bet.
With Toy Story already being represented, which movies do you add to the park? Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and A Bug’s Life are already present in Epcot and Animal Kingdom respectively, so those will not likely be joining the party. If you’re looking for the most obvious choice, you need only look to the west coast as we may be seeing a version of the Cars Land attraction that originated in Disneyland.
While Radiator Springs may draw some attention, fans may want to see something new at Hollywood Studios. Inside Out is the latest on a long list of successful films created by the animation studio and it seems likely that we will see it in the parks in one way or another. Additionally, The Good Dinosaur will be the next Pixar movie, slated for a November release. It would not be surprising to see that brought to the parks as well.
There is no question that Disney has the resources to put together an incredible new park within the shell they’ve left of Hollywood Studios. How they go about doing it is yet to be seen. We know for sure that the expectations will be high, but will the remodeled park live up to the hype?
