Homer and Marge from The Simpsons sure stopped some hearts when the rumors went around that their marriage was doomed. The rumors got so bad that Homer and Marge released a public address letting us know that they were just fine. Just when I had breathed a sigh of relief that our animated friends were okay the next blow has come along. It seems that Kermit The Frog and Miss Piggy are over. I can't even contain my emotions right now! Someone pass me some Ben & Jerry's ice cream already to drown my sorrows in.
Kermie and Miss Piggy are one of of the most enduring, yet totally miss-matched couples. Despite this, they sure seemed like the perfect match for one another and that they would live happily ever after. The first batch of news at the ABC summer press tour about the new Muppets show seemed pretty appealing, with executive producer of the show Bill Prady revealing:
"The goal here is to be exactly the same and completely different. We will honor ‘The Muppet Show’ legacy more rigorously than has been done before but at the same time do something contemporary."
But the shocking and unexpected news that the lovable characters had split soon followed!
In a joint statement posted online, the glamorous and fame-obsessed Miss Piggy and the bouncy amphibian Kermit formally announced that it really is over!
Kermit dropped the heart-breaking news in a statement on Twitter:
At least this split won't affect them working together, or will it? Kermit sure is keeping upbeat in these dark and trying times.
Say it isn't so! After 40 years together this surely seems like one of the biggest celebrity splits, like ever. Breaking the hearts of Muppets fans all around the world. But, we must try to understand their decision.
Kermit went on to say:
"People change. So do frogs and pigs. ... We were together for a long, long time and it's personal."
But Kermit sure does not wait around. There is already a new lady who has captured his heart!
Actress and singer Emmy Rossum was the first to hear the news.
I wonder if Miss Piggy knows yet?
Let's hope they really do stay on good terms as they have a show to complete!
Bill Prady, the executive producer, sure has given me some hope after the gloomy news, though:
"Anybody that hasn't seen The Muppets in the past will see this whole new world and it will seem fresh and original and new to them, and anybody that has grown up with that will have that nostalgic feel but also their minds blown by the way we are doing the show."
Here is a peek of the epic pilot presentation that persuaded ABC to allow the muppets to return
Featuring The Muppets like you have never seen them before, up close and very personal. The show will be coming our way this fall on Tuesdays on ABC. There will be musical guests and celebrities starring; but this time the show will be more like The Office or Modern Family and less like the show we are used to.
Here are Miss Piggy and her Kermie in happier times when they sang 'I Do'
I need a mountain of tissues right now. Bonus points if you can watch this without bawling your eyes out.
I really do hope that the breakup is just a publicity stunt!
