One of the greatest one-shot issues from DC Comics follows an alternate timeline in which Bruce Wayne must protect 19th century Gotham from the unexpected arrival of Jack the Ripper. Gotham by Gaslight, as it's called, has become a major fan favorite and a wholly original take on the Caped Crusader.
While Warner Bros. and DC may still be concerned with bringing this time period's version of Batman to life, one fan has taken it upon himself to give us the Gaslight Batman that we want and deserve. His name is James Campbell, and he's writing and directing a live-action short inspired by Wayne's intriguing encounter with the infamous serial killer.
Now, the official teaser trailer has dropped, and I'm pretty much floored by the high production value and eerie setting. Check it out here!
Here's the plot of Ripper, which appears to deviate a bit from the story that inspired it (in equally awesome ways):
London - 1888, the Jack the Ripper murders are gripping the nation and the people of Whitechapel are growing increasingly scared... Chief Inspector Abberline is struggling to figure out who the killer is and with added pressure from above to catch the murderer his own demons begin to get the better of him. But there is someone out there who wants to help... Watching... in the shadows... waiting to strike.
Super impressed by how this trailer makes the short look, and I've always wanted to see Gotham by Gaslamp come to life. What do you think of this fan-made film?
