As fans of Marvel's first family, I am sure many people are disappointed by the recent negative reviews for the upcoming reboot "Fantastic Four" directed by Josh Trank. It currently has a fluctuating average of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes and circling down the drain. I have heard such things as it being just a run-of-the-mill, generic Sci-Fi movie, that it feels rushed and anti-climactic, and one person even went as far to say it was a complete bore.
Now, I will be purely honest with you, I was skeptical of this film from the very first trailer, but I remained optimistic because of Josh Trank's 2012 indie-flick "Chronicle" and believed his direction would save an otherwise Doomed project.
I still have a glimmer of optimism just for nostalgia purposes alone (I mean, really! Everyone's inner child wants to see an epic battle between F4 and Dr. Doom), but that sense of optimism is dwindling by the hour as more and more critics say how disappointing it is. Which begs the question, will the movie turn out like last year's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and be a failure or will the movie actually surprise us and lift itself out of the drain and be a success?
As someone who grew up with characters like the ever lovin' blue eyed Thing and the sinister Doctor Doom, I can say I will still go see this film and formulate a review. So, fingers crossed and hoping my optimism rewards me. How many of you are planning to go see Fantastic Four when it hits theaters this Friday?
