Before I begin with this article, I would like to just state that this article is my opinion about this one particular character, with that being said lets begin. So if you are like me you grew up watching X-Men the cartoon and was enthralled with all the missions and rescues, fighting bad guys and other mutants a like. My favourite episode was when Jean Grey became The Phoenix as they return to Earth from a mission and goes crazy on her team after allowing the entity known as The Phoenix to enter in her mind and body. This will always be the true and now Singer's Phoenix does not count.
Now getting to that point that I would so like to make. I will forever hate Bryan Singer's version of The Phoenix. Mainly because when The Phoenix was introduced in the movie was not the right way to go. I mean I'm sitting there watching Famke Janssen play Jean Grey (which wouldn't have been my first choice) and turn into the Phoenix thinking this is great finally this is happening, but then we go to the third X-Men movie and how Jean became the Phoenix is just BLAH! I mean I get that they are trying to keep it as real as possible but basically calling The Phoenix a case of split personality/ mental illness like come on. I know this is a movie and stuff but in reality your neighbour down the street is not going to magically get bone claws or the boy next door is not going to shoot lasers from his fricken eye balls man. So at least give us Marvel/X-Men fans a believable story when it comes to Jean Grey turning into the Phoenix. Like maybe it entered her body to help her save her team, not her unlocking the barriers that Professor X put in place so the “demon child” couldn't break free.
Well now that my paragraph long rant is over lets get to the new Jean Grey, Sophie Turner. I was shocked when they announced she would be playing Jean Grey. However, I do approve mainly because she's one of my favourite characters on Game Of Thrones and she looks like she would make a pretty awesome Jean. I just hope that with this new story line or alternate time line, they change the way Jean Grey becomes The Phoenix, make it more like the comics/ cartoon, because again they are not a group of people out in the world with enhanced genetic mutations that causes them to have super powers or be indestructible, just saying.
