After four films, some better than others, Shrek is a staple in pop culture. He's a fan favorite with both children and adults, but not many people know that he was originally set to be played by the late Chris Farley.
Before his untimely passing, Farley recorded dialogue for the first Shrek film, but when news broke of his death, Mike Myers took his place and re-recorded the lines. Until today, few people have heard Chris Farley's recordings, but now they are out in the open. Here we see the iconic scene from the movie in which Shrek and Donkey converse under the stars.

As you can see, Shrek's character design was a little different than what we got in the final product. I personally think the final design is more suited for Myers' voice, and understand the decision.
