Kristen Stewart is accused of a lot of things by the tabloid press. Not caring, not dressing right, not dating the right people and most of all, not smiling!
Aside from the obvious silliness of such claims, Kristen is happy to answer this long-standing prejudice against her... with a smile. For September's Elle UK magazine, Kristen chatted candidly with friend and fellow actress Juliette Lewis, setting the record straight:
"The whole smiling thing is weird because I actually smile a lot. I literally want to be like, 'Dude, you would think I was cool if you got to know me.'"
Well said, Kristen! It's easy to poke fun at someone for 'not smiling' when you don't know them and make judgements purely from photos and quotes in the press. Her reticence for being a cheesily grinning accessible doll may put some people off, but she's not going to waste time worrying about it.
Kristen also commented on her reluctance to create a massive personal social media presence, saying:
"I'm not anti-social media. I just haven't decided to do it. The idea of addressing such a massive group... if I don't know who I'm talking to it doesn't make any fucking sense to me."
Amusingly enough, Kristen is not smiling on the cover of the magazine in question (below) but this is hardly her choice - actors learn to take direction from photographers during a shoot, because they're goddamn professionals!
Other reasons for Kristen's apocryphal missing smile include her pantheon of pretty serious movies: with heartbreakers like Still Alice and cerebral, award-winning dramas like Clouds of Sils Maria, it would seem a little off for Kristen to be beaming in all of the publicity.
