The next installment in the X-men franchise may not hit theaters until next year, but director Bryan Singer continues to tease fans via behind the scenes shots on his Instagram. Today, he dropped this shot of a battle-scarred Cairo, including a particularly interesting caption...

No prizes for guessing who he's referring to - when it comes to dropping enormous metal structures on things, there's little doubt we're looking at Magneto.

We already know that Magneto is going to appear in [X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267) as one of the Four Horsemen, along with Storm, Angel and Psylocke, so the question here is what else is going on in the shot? Is Magneto destroying things as a Horseman here, or is he still under his own power at this point?

To answer that, we have to look at two more of the photos that Singer has posted in recent weeks.

This photo shows Storm in all her glory, gazing out over the pyramids with the caption "Storm watches over #1983 via the magic of real time".

This earlier pic comes with the line "Tip toeing through ruined #1983".

It's clear to me that these three shots are linked. Despite some fan theories that the most recent shot is of the X Mansion or possibly even Magneto's home, if you look closely at the building in the background, you can see architectural and design details that are very clearly Egyptian.

When the first images were released, speculation suggested that perhaps Cairo was destroyed as Storm was recruited to Apocalypse's side. If this is the case, then Magneto is either already working with Storm, or has already become a Horseman.

Another option is that these are scenes from a final showdown. With Storm and Apocalypse hailing from Egypt, it would make sense that they end up returning to the pyramids for the climax of the film.

We'll have to wait until next year to find out exactly what is going on, but if Singer keeps dropping little teasers, there'll be plenty more to speculate on between now and then!
