For many of us, the presence of Dishonored 2 at Bethesda's E3 conference wasn't exactly a surprise - mainly because they accidentally leaked the announcement before the show, but whatever! Dishonored was a massive success for Bethesda and developer, Arkane Studios. A sequel was basically guaranteed and we have no problem with seeing this IP expand.
Fans have been extremely vocal of their support of this game. It was a Game of the Year winner from multiple publications and it genuinely felt like it came out of nowhere - what a tremendous surprise. However, there are still a few improvements that could be made and certain gameplay aspects could be eliminated for Dishonored 2. So I thought I'd compile a short list of the most requested features and alterations for Arkane Studios' upcoming sequel!
Dishonored 2 - Requested Gameplay Features For Release Date
One of the main aspects of design that players have discussed in relation to the sequel is non-lethal gameplay. You can be a complete badass in Dishonored, and some of the ways that you can slaughter your enemies are ridiculously satisfying. However, the stealthy, non-lethal approach was never as gratifying as seeing an enemy devoured by some hungry rats. Arkane need to make some improvements in this regards.
Deus Ex for example is an exceptionally good stealth game when it comes to balancing out the satisfaction of opting for lethal or non-lethal takedowns. Hitman and the Metal Gear Solid series have always had excellent gameplay mechanics for nullifying your enemies without killing them. Therefore, this would be the main improvement I'd love to see for Dishonored 2, but players have a lot more requests for the sequel!
A lot of gamers who really like Dishonored want to see the sequel's difficulty ramp up. Clean Hands, an achievement you can get at the conclusion of a mission, should be something that is far more difficult to achieve. As it stands, enemies can often be quite easy to escape in Dishonored with the use of certain abilities. More enemies that can match our skills was also a request, we should have to really change-up our approach to certain enemy types.
Additionally, players want to see the option of dual-wielding and the ability to select which hand uses which power - like in Skyrim. This way we could have blink and dark vision equipped at the same time and Dishonored 2 would permit whichever combination you desire. Bethesda are the producers of the Dishonored franchise, so we'd love to see Arkane learn from them in terms of player freedom!
Here are some honorable mentions from other fans of Dishonored:
- Increased verticality in levels.
- Have knocked-out guards wake up after a while like in Metal Gear Solid.
- See stats during a mission.
- A NG+ mode where all collected Runes/Bone Charms are kept, or a "Mission Select" mode after beating the game where you can alter runes/bone charms to your liking.
