Brace yourself, bad puns are coming.

Lex Luthor is a supervillain in the DC universe. He is a genius, billionaire, and the arch-nemesis of Superman. Lex is playing the villain in the upcoming movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, it's highly unlikely that DC will abandon one of their most prominent villains after one movie. No, DC probably has big plans for someone like Lex Luthor. The question is, what?

The most obvious route is that Lex will build his super-suit, and come again as a villain either in the Justice League movie, or for the sequel of Man of Steel. I have a different theory.

First of all it is safe to assume that DC is building their cinematic universe with the New 52 versions. This will explain why characters like Cyborg and Shazam are getting their own movies this soon, instead of Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl and others.

Cyborg and Shazam are key members of the New 52 Justice League. You know who else is?

LEX FREAKING LUTHOR!!!

That's right, Lex Luthor is a member of the Justice League (in the rebooted New 52 version). In fact, he is one of the most important characters in it.

Let's see how this can tie in to the DCEU.

The original seven founding members in the rebooted New 52 version of the Justice League are: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Cyborg.

Now take a look at the DCEU movie lineup again. We have movies for all seven of them! The absence of Martian Manhunter (who was the founder instead of Cyborg in THE original Justice League) also confirms this theory.

Later on, the Justice League expands its membership, to include Shazam (and a few more). And hey, guess what? We are getting a Shazam movie too! If you think about it, the only point of introducing a new character would be that they will stick around and play a major part in the cinematic universe. It is safe to assume that Shazam will be incorporated into the Justice League sooner or later.

Do you know who introduced Shazam to the JLA? Lex Luthor. Yes, thats right. Lex Luthor admitted Shazam into the Justice League. Furthermore, he also provided massive help (with his technological abilities and huge fortune) in building a new Watchtower for the League, along with Bruce Wayne.

Luthor was joined in the Justice League by another villain - Captain Cold, nemesis of The Flash. Now this doesn't mean that he completely stopped being evil. He was granted a place in the JLA as they thought it would be easier to keep an eye on him, and his company LexCorp. So far he has proven to be a valuable member, but the question is, how long will that continue?

DC have a huge potential here to manipulate the whole DCEU. Lex Luthor could go from being a supervillain to a hero and a valuable contributer to the Justice League. Then maybe DC can revert him back to being a villain, by making him betray the League! Maybe this whole time Lex was working for a higher power.. Brainiac? Darkseid!? Someone even more powerful than them!? He can have a great story arc during the whole series, and maybe even a solo movie!

Lex Luthor has the potential to make the DCEU completely twist and turn, and surprising fans worldwide! Very sneaky DC, very sneaky!
