I'm addicted to watching and owning movies. I even love to talk about movies when I'm not watching them. I write movies and I make movies.

Recent News has come that Warner Bros. has extended Ben Affleck's contract, and pushed back other Affleck movies (non-Batman) because they loved the rough cut for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The cut apparently got a standing ovation. This news does not surprise me, and I'm here to tell you why Ben Affleck will, in fact, be the “definitive Batman”, and why BvS will be an awesome Batman film.

Great Chin

That's right. It's a weird reason, and I want to get it out of the way now, but seriously, look at his chin.

It's a good strong chin, and fits very well with the Batman head gear. Michael Keaton, good looking action figure Batman. Val Kilmer and George Clooney...let's just say they were too flashy. Christian Bale was good at first, but later it was weird.

At least Ben isn't like Alfredo Casero.

Yes, Bale was able to move his head better in the last film, but let's be honest, he looks like a bobble head Batman.

Now, Affleck does seem constrained in the neck region, but still looks really cool, buff, and daunting.

The Suit

The suit looks different than what we are used to seeing, and it's a good thing. It represents Frank Miller's Dark Knight well. Many dislike it, but I think it looks more realistic, grittier, and tougher. Kevin Smith himself thinks the suit looks great, has faith in Ben Affleck, and is very excited for this movie. I have faith in Kevin Smith's opinions, especially when dealing with comic book stuff.

Daredevil

Get this one out of the way too. Many others have said this one, but it's true, and it counts for something. Ben Affleck has already had to work out and train to do the things he did in Daredevil. It wasn't a great movie, even he says it wasn't great and he "regrets it", but you can't hold him accountable for the movie as a whole. I thought he was great but the film just wasn't well put together. He also has experience playing Superman in “Hollywoodland”, so, there's that. He's got the experience and that's always good.

Big and Tall

Ben Affleck is 6'4”, and let's just say around 260lbs. That's a big dude, and a big dude like that can be intimidating, especially when wearing the Batsuit. He's already shown his fighting abilities in Daredevil, so, we know he can fight and that he's pretty flexible as well as powerful. Michael Keaton is 5'10”, Val Kilmer is 6', George Clooney is 5'11”, and Christian Bale is 6'. That leaves Ben as the biggest yet, and that's the way I've always seen the caped crusader. You need bigger for Batman in order to strike fear into the criminals. Henry Cavill is 6' 1", which should make for good screen composition.

Different Story

We won't be seeing an origin story. We may have flashbacks of his origin, but from what I understand, Batman has been around for years, and has even lost Robin (at least one). We get a Batman that knows what he is doing, and has even cooler toys. Like the suit he uses to fight Superman.

That should certainly help for a good battle between the two. Not only will the story not be an origin, but it will be darker, grittier and more realistic. I bet Batman gets pissed at what Superman does, and goes all out psycho to get him for what he's done. I bet Batman even breaks his rule in BvS. It seems like he will definitely be a sad and angry Bruce Wayne/Batman. This Batman character is based on Frank Miller's Dark knight story, and if you have read the comics, or have seen the animated films based off Frank’s Batman (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Pt. 1 & 2 and Batman Year One), then you understand how dark and gruesome we're talking here. I mean, just think Sin City and 300 and you can get a good idea.

Ben will make a Perfect Bruce Wayne

Many people say “anyone can be Batman”, which I think is true to a point. Anyone can put a suit on and pretend to be Batman, but not just anyone can pull it off really well. Either way, he makes a perfect Bruce Wayne. Which a lot of people seem to hold the Bruce Wayne aspect in a higher regard. One reason he's a spot on Bruce is that he's a known alcoholic (possibly recovered or in recovery currently), he's a gambler and gets into brawls. Need I say more? Well, I will. He's also a well known activist, which means he has a good mind for politics and public speaking. He also landed a woman like Jennifer Garner (despite the fact that they are now divorcing. Probably because of alcohol and gambling). There were jokes made about Ben Affleck getting hookers, like in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Therefore, if Ben had Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez and does all of those things he's accused of, then he should really be named a “playboy” like Bruce Wayne. Especially if he's supposed to be an older and more “seasoned” Bruce Wayne/Batman.

He will be Writing, Directing and Starring in the next solo Batman films.

If he's doing that, then do you really think he would want to screw it up even before it starts? He already has complete faith in Batman v Superman, and is working extra hard to get the role down. He has even said if the film would be like Daredevil, then he would picket outside. He has to study everything about his character and the story in order for the solo film to be great, on top of learning from Zack Snyder what it's like to do big budget blockbuster superhero films.

Ben Affleck has won two Oscars and two Golden Globes because of his directing and writing (Argo and Good Will Hunting). I'm sure he has the skills and focus to pull off everything to make Batman awesome.

News actually comes in today that there was a private screening for the rough cut of BvS and it was “smashing” and it received a standing ovation. So smashing that Warner Bros. has delayed the films The Accountant and Live by Night (follow up to Argo), movies that Ben Affleck is a part of as well. They have delayed the movies because they want Ben to focus on writing his solo Batman film, and prep for The Justice League that begins shooting Spring of 2016.

Not only were executives impressed with the rough cut, they were impressed with Ben Affleck as Batman, and extended his contract from one solo Batman film to three. Affleck was labeled as a “definitive Batman” and BvS may be the main focus “which the DC movie universe will rotate in future movies.” That news really gets me excited, and now I'm looking forward to the films even more. If that was the rough cut, then I'm anxious for the final cut. References to this news is here and here.

For those reasons is why I believe Warner Bros. liked the rough cut, and why they love Ben Affleck as Batman. I'm super-duper excited for the two films Batman v Superman (March 25, 2016) and Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016).
