I attend a lot of conventions every year. Some big, Some small and all of the ones in between. Today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite conventions from this past year. All-Americon in Warren, OH.
All-Americon is put on by All American Cards and Comics. It is a small convention but one that I felt brings the excitement of a big convention. The crowd, vendors and guests that came in ware enthusiastic and excited to be there.
The cosplay guests Knightmage, Bio Cosplay, Enchanted Rose Cosplay, and myself were put right at the front entrance to the convention so we got to watch as the place quickly became packed. We also got to watch as all of the amazing costumes made their way in the front door. But I will come back to the costumes. The vendors hall stayed consistently busy and when I walked through everyone was friendly and patient as you made your way through the crowd.
Being at the Cosplay table I got to meet a lot of new people and take lots of pictures with them which is one of my favorite parts of doing these conventions. Not to mention Bio Cosplay, Enchanted Rose Cosplay, and myself were able to help Knightmage raise money for the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership!
The cosplay guests also hosted a panel. I have had the opportunity to be on a few cosplay panels. Typically at small conventions the turnout is so-so and the interaction with the crowd can be a little on the low side. This was not the case with the Cosplay 101 panel at All-Americon. The room filled up fairly quickly and after talking a bit about themselves they opened the panel up to questions. This is where this really stood out to me. The crowd interaction was great! There were lots of questions and interactions. It was fun and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. It is one of my favorite panels that I have gotten to do yet.
Next up was the costume contest. it was separated into an adult and kids contest and both groups came out with some amazing costumes. This again blew my mind. I am used to seeing amazing costumes at any size convention but there were so many amazing costumes for such a small convention. It was really great to see!
The Kids contest was a lot of fun. The kids were all excited to be there and having a lot of fun. It was great seeing some of them really get into character and show off their costumes. In the end all of the kids were winners!
The adult contest was also really amazing. The cosplayers that attended All-Americon really brought it. In the end picking a winner was one of the most difficult choices that I have had to make yet.
The convention wrapped up shortly after the costume contest and it came and went way too fast. All I can say is wow. I am honored to have been a guest at this convention and I hope to make return visits in the future. Next year if you find yourself near Warren, OH around the time of this convention you should really take the time to stop by. You will not be disappointed. I hope to see you there!
