Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the brilliant masterminds directing the hilarity that ensues in the Jump Street films, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.
Even though 23 Jump Street is in the works, it seems that our beloved duo will be unable to step in as directors. They have their hands more than full, as they are writers for the upcoming Flash movie and the animated Spider-Man film. Rumor has it that the two are also being courted to direct the next Star Wars Anthology film, which follows the story of a young Han Solo.
Chris Miller attended the Television Critics Association press tour and released this statement:
“We are hard at work on 23 Jump Street, which I think we will probably just produce from a time standpoint,” Miller said. “But we’ve been working really hard. We’ve got a really good first draft of a script in and we’re really excited about it.”
While the script is being written by Rodney Rothman, who helped write 22 Jump Street, and both Tatum and Hill are returning in their roles of Jenko and Schmidt, we wonder who will be able to fill the ginormous shoes left behind by Miller and Lord.
However, with Lord and Miller as producers, 23 Jump Street is sure to be just as comical and crazy as the previous films. Apparently Rothman had come up with an interesting idea that he had run by Lord, and both Lord and Miller are on board with it. They claim it will be unexpected and brand new, something Jump Street hasn't done before.
Below is a list of directors that would kick ass directing the third installment of the series.
McKay has directed such movie gold as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Eastbound & Down, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. In case you haven't noticed, this guy seems to know a thing or two about comedy. Plus he regularly works with Will Ferrell. He could do incredibly well with 23 Jump Street.
I have always thought that a good director has to have taken an acting class or two, to ensure that they understand actors' various processes and how to get the best performances out of them.
Banks is a well-known hilarious actress. But she has also tried her hand at directing, as seen with the films Movie 43 and Pitch Perfect 2. I'd love to see what she can do with 23 Jump Street.
Swanberg directed the film Drinking Buddies, featuring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Sudeikis. He also directed the film Happy Christmas with Melanie Lynskey and Lena Dunham. He has the ability to capture the hilarity and reality behind any comedic situation. I think he would do so well with this upcoming sequel.
With Miller and Lord by his or her side, and a script coming from the likes of Rothman, 23 Jump Street's new director is sure to be fully equipped with a badass team ready to create some full on belly-laughing moments.
If you were worried before, you don't have to be anymore.
