Everyone remembers this fan favorite right? Holes seemed to be a staple amongst elementary school classes everywhere. Whenever I see this movie on television, I usually don't hesitate to put it on and relive a part of my childhood. Last week, I was able to enjoy this film with my niece who is 6 years old and it got me thinking, whatever happened to the cast? There were some pretty big name actors who were a part of this movie and some soon to be A-list actors/actresses. This is what the cast of holes looks like today!
"DO IT! JUST DO IT!" A phrase that will be forever etched into the history of online videos. Giving us arguably the most motivational speech of all time, Shia LaBeouf has experienced immense success since the release of Holes and has become one of Hollywood's A-list actors. LaBeouf became a bonafide action star by starring in the Transformers trilogy and since then his career has skyrocketed. My personal favorite role of his was Bible in the 2014 WWll drama Fury. Shia LaBeouf has actually dabbled in rap music, releasing videos of him free styling in the woods. Shia LaBeouf is one of those actors who has been both criticized and praised by the media, but in my opinion, he is one of the best actors around today and will continue to rise.
Khleo Thomas got his big break when he was cast in the role of Zero in Holes. He portrayed a young, orphaned child who is unable to read or write. Since then, Thomas's main focus has been on his music career. An up and coming rapper, Thomas is planning on releasing his debut album in the near future. He has stayed pretty distant from acting, with minor roles here and there. Khleo Thomas is definitely focusing on his music career and hopefully it works out for him.
Ah yes, even the Sci-Fi queen was in this film and actually played the main antagonist. Warden Louis Walker was a very evil woman and Weaver pulled it off to perfection. Since then, Sigourney Weaver has starred in a multitude of films such as WALL.E, Avatar, Paul, Cabin in the Woods, and she will also star in the upcoming sequels to Avatar, just to name a few. Unlike many of the young actors in this film, Sigourney Weaver did not need this film to cement her status as one of the all-time greats. She will forever be named the Sci-Fi queen and she is truly a legend.
Jon Voight, or Mr. Sir as you may know him, is another actor who's career had already risen to prominence well before Holes. As the father on Angelina Jolie, (yes THE Angelina Jolie), Voight rose to fame during the '70s when he won the Academy Award for his portrayal of a paraplegic Vietnam war veteran. Since playing the role of Mr. Sir in Holes, Voight's career has had it's fair share of ups and downs. He was a part of the critically panned film Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, but has also had his fair share of critically acclaimed performances as well. Today, he is mainly known for portraying Mickey Donovan on the Showtime crime drama Ray Donovan, a role that has earned him multiple Golden Globe nominations. Jon Voight has had a very underrated career and he is one that deserves to be honored. His role in Holes will always be one of my favorites and one I'll remember forever.
Tim Blake Nelson
Unfortunately for actor/director Tim Blake Nelson, his role as Dr. Kiowa "Mom" Pendanski in Holes is one of his more well known ones. His rise to fame came when he starred alongside George Clooney and John Turturro in the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Though, where he received critical acclaim. After Holes, where he was one of the main antagonist, Nelson went on to have minor roles in films such as Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Meet the Fockers, The Incredible Hulk, and most recently the ill reviewed Fantastic Four reboot. Hopefully Nelson can get another shot at a big time role and succeed in doing so.
Byron Cotton, who played the role of Theodor "Armpit" in Holes, has been pretty absent from the acting world. After Holes, Cotton has only been featured in a handful of television projects and it doesn't look like he will be returning to the big screen anytime soon.
Brenden Jefferson was best known for his role as X-Ray in Holes. Unfortunately for him, that is about all he has done in terms of acting. His most recent project was the television movie Redemption: The Stanley Tookie Williams Story in 2004. Today he is mainly a songwriter for various artists and it is unlikely he will return to acting anytime soon.
Max Kasch played the character Zig-Zag in Holes and he has had relative success in terms of landing acting roles. He starred in the psycho-horror film Shrooms, where I saw him again for the first time since Holes. His most recent roles were as T-dog in the 2009 film Still Waiting and as a character in the 2014 film Whiplash.
The Cast of Holes Today!
Unfortunately, much of the cast of Holes has been absent from Hollywood for quite some time. Actors such as Shia LaBeouf and Khleo Thomas got their first big break in this film and launched their careers to extraordinary heights. This movie has always had a special place in my heart and I will always remember its charm. If you haven't seen this film for some reason then please do yourself favor and go check it out! DIG!
