Elite Dangerous is probably one of the most beautiful games available on the PC. The vast expanses of space offer up some of the most impressive sights a high-end machine can offer. All those who've engaged with the game, be it on PC or XBOX One (soon to be PS4 too), have stopped and stared at the tremendous beauty Frontier Developments have packed into this game. But why let the beauty stop there?
Some gamers have taken their appreciation of Elite Dangerous to unprecedented levels. The beauty that we see onscreen has transcended into our world with the exceptional gaming rigs these people have created to traverse the depths of space. Elite may not be the best space sim we could ever ask for, but with rigs like this, I don't think it really matters!
Probably the 3 Greatest Gaming Rigs for Elite Dangerous
VR is all the rage at the moment, and with the likes of [No Man's Sky](tag:2684052) already being thought of as the potential candidate for the launch of Sony's Project Morpheus, space battles are one of VR's main focus points. The Oculus Rift paired with Elite Dangerous is quite a beautiful thing, and this particular gamer has got it all figured out! I love how the sound in this video actually sounds like he's transmitting from space - such an Alien vibe.
The three-monitor approach to PC gaming is basically perfect for Elite Dangerous. The way in which the HUD can spread across three 4K monitors as you blast your way through space is pretty incredible. But if you simulation sickness isn't an issue for you and the option of paying a shit-ton of money isn't on the cards, the Oculus Rift is a beautiful replacement. I had my first experience with VR at Gamescom last week, and though I can only comment on the HTC Vive - it was incredible!
What's Your PC Setup For Elite Dangerous?
Moving on, we have LiquidMantis from the Elite Dangerous community with an impressive take on the three-monitor approach. You've got your joystick, throttle, pedals, keyboard, incredible chair and some bass that will blow your mind. An impressive second place goes to this gentleman!
But of course, when you spend nearly $5,000 on a rig to support one game, you're taking things to infinity and beyond. Markus Bösen from Germany has created one of the most beautiful things a gamer can ever witness. I'm happy with my PS4 and its lovely controllers, but this my friends is intimidating. The core of Markus' epic setup is a cluster of three HD BenQ TH681 projectors, powered by a pair of Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC graphic cards configured in Crossfire mode. Sound is provided via a Logitech Z-5500 Digital Surround Sound system. DAYUM, JERRY ( Parks and Recreation anyone??)!
Have You Got A Rig Like This? Or Are You On Xbox One Or Waiting For the PS4?
Out of all of the rigs that I managed to dig up, these three all impressed me for different reasons. So I'd love to hear which rigs have blown your mind! What have I missed? Do you have a rig of your own to rival these competitors? Let us know in the comments!
