The remake of Westwold is coming to HBO as a series adaption in 2016! The teaser for it dropped today. So, I figured I would write an article explaining why you should be very pumped about it!
An amusement park for wealthy vacationers. Provides its customers a way to live out their fantasies through the use of robots that provide anything they want. Two of the vacationers choose a wild west adventure. However, after a computer malfunction, they find that they are now being stalked by a rogue robot gun-slinger.
Michael Crichton wrote and directed the original Westoworld movie. Crichton is known for writing the novel and screenplay of, Jurassic Park. After the movie was released it was followed by a sequel called, Futureworld and even a short-lived TV show called Beyond Westoworld. The original film stars James Brolin, Richard Benjamin, and a few other awesome TV actors. During the 70s Westworld was very cutting edge. However, it is hard to tell in this day and age. Director John Carpenter based the "indestructable" nature of his killer Michael Myers in Halloween (1978) on Yul Brynner's character in this film. And Arnold Schwarzenegger used Brynner's character to draw inspiration for his role as the terminator. Just to try and convey how influential this movie was. Without Westworld, we might have not seen characters like the Terminator and Michael Myers. Westworld was the blueprint for what was later Jurassic Park.
Warner Bros. had been considering a remake of Westworld since the early 1990s. A feature film remake did not happen, and on August 31, 2013, it was announced that premium cable channel HBO had ordered a pilot for a potential television series version of the story, with Jonathan Nolan directing and co-writing with Lisa Joy. Nolan, Joy, J. J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are executive producers. Yes, Jonathon Nolan is the brother of Christopher Nolan. Jonathon is not as popular as Chris. However, his resume is just as good as Chris's. They work together a lot. Jonathon has written, Interstellar, Memento, The Prestige, and the Dark Knight just to name a few. This series has been called Jonathon's baby. He has written the whole first season, is the executive producer, and will be directing the first episode. Excited yet? Bryan Burk is on board also as a producer who is known for Cloverfield, the new Star Trek remakes, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Lost and The new Mission Impossible, Rogue Nation.
The new adaptation has some real star power behind it. Not just with Jonathon Nolan and J.J. Abrams behind the scenes. It also has Ed harris, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Barnes, and Ingrid Berdal on the front lines. And it will be on HBO?!?! How could you not be excited? Oh and the pilot's early screenplay was written by the original creator Michael Crichton himself!
To sum everything up! Johnathon Nolan, Michael Crichton, Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, all on HBO!!! That is why you should be excited for the new show.
