Now, with the nature of the film industry being what it is, it's not really all that surprising that the vast majority of roles that hit the big screen are both highly sought after and incredibly carefully cast. After all, between the vast array of acting talent at a studio's metaphorical fingertips, and the immense weight of commercial importance placed on the shoulders of each and every tent-pole release, who ends up playing a character matters.

And when you try to picture somebody else in the role, things often start to get super-weird. Get ready, then, for a moment or two of intense peculiarity, since...

This Avengers: Age of Ultron Concept Art Seems to Suggest That Ellen Page Almost Played Scarlet Witch

Or, at least, that was very much the response many fans have had to the artwork since it first emerged a few months back.

Which raises a whole lot of questions - not least whether or not it could really have happened. After all, while the design certainly does bear more than a passing resemblance to Elizabeth Olsen...

...it also most certainly does look an awful lot like Ellen Page, too...

So, when the artist himself - Andy Park - took to Twitter recently to showcase the design...

...and included the hashtags and , it's perhaps not too surprising that some fans began to suspect that something may have been up...

The big question, then?

Was Ellen Page Really Being Considered for Scarlet Witch?

Well, perhaps - and if anyone here ever runs into Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige they should definitely ask him - but if so, then Park apparently didn't know anything about it:
