Thanks to the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have been introduced to many actors that we may not have known otherwise. Sure, we might have been familiar with the names Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson, but how many of you can say you knew the name Mark Ruffalo before The Avengers?
One of the names that may have flown under the radar before the MCU is Chris Hemsworth. Since the Thor movies, his name has soared in popularity.
A Family Business
Most of us are familiar with Chris' younger brother Liam Hemsworth from films such as The Hunger Games and The Expendables 2, but did you know there was another Hemsworth boy in the acting business? That's right, Chris has an older brother, Luke Hemsworth. Luke has played parts in several television shows, such as Neighbours and Bikie Wars: Brothers In Arms.
A Fated Role
Chris is obviously best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but did you know that Chris was born on a Thursday? The day of the week is actually named after Thor (originally Thor's-day).
Chris is very well known for his good looks, and People magazine even named him the sexiest man alive in 2014. He also ranked number seven in the "50 Sexiest Men" for Glamour magazine in 2013. Unfortunately for him, his brother Liam was ranked just above him.
Chris was born in Melbourne, Australia. While he still lived there, his first big acting break was on a soap opera called Home and Away. Guy Pearce, Heath Ledger and Isla Fisher all appeared on the soap opera.
A Creative Mind
Chris stated that if he wasn't an actor, he would like to be a writer or a director. Just imagine him writing the next superhero flick instead of starring in it!
When Chris came to the US to act, his first job was in J.J. Abram's Star Trek. He played George Kirk, Captain James Kirk's father. He then appeared in Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods, and it was Whedon who pushed Hemsworth to audition for Thor.
While Chris Hemsworth may be busy saving Asgard during his professional life, he's been quite busy during his personal life as well. After marrying actress Elsa Pataky in 2010, he's been fathering three children: India Rose, Tristan, and Sasha.
Chris had to run against both his brother Liam and future co-star Tom Hiddleston (who would go on to play Loki) for the part of Thor. Chris ended up gaining twenty pounds of muscle to prepare for the part, giving him the ideal god-like physique.
