Well, Ryan Murphy promised that we'd be seeing our favorite good guys and gals going bad for American Horror Story: Hotel... but I never expected it'd be this dark.
Murphy confirmed that Lily Rabe - the woman who brought to life angelic Sister Mary Eunice and ethereal flower child Misty Day - will be playing America's most notorious female serial killer of all time: Aileen Wuornos.
American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy told L.A. Times:
We're doing a two-part, well, we always do a two-part Halloween episode, but our Halloween episode this year is called 'Devil's Night,'" said Murphy. "I'm directing it because I love the script so much, when we finished it I said, 'I can't give this to anybody else.' Lily Rabe is coming to that episode.
And she's playing Aileen Wuornos, which is really fun and bizarre. I don't want to give too much away but I will tell you that she's at the centerpiece of that, and that's who she's playing.
Awesome. I can't think of a much more challenging role than playing Aileen Wuornos. The troubled woman who killed seven clients while working as a prostitute - always, she claimed, in self-defense - had a tragic life and multiple mental health issues due to such. I trust Lily Rabe to convey all the darkness, the edginess and the pathos necessary for this complex character.
Perhaps she could take a few notes from Charlize Theron's performance in Monster...
