After viewing Suicide Squad's Trailer I was very disappointed in how similar it is to the Marvel's Avengers and parts of Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer. The use of a popular song as the trailers soundtrack, performed by a new artist and made to be more melancholy and ominous. I'm a fan of both DC and Marvel, I just want DC to come into it's own and not sit back and follow Marvel's format. Which, seemingly, is what they are doing. Seeing what worked for Marvel and taking it and re-branding it their own. I own all the Suicide Squad Comics and never is, I'll call her Female Nick Fury since she's so far from her character (Amanda Waller) in the comics, which is a goofy, thinks she knows it all and has everything under control, bumbling idiot. Which plays well in the comics, but they couldn't do that in the film for various reasons: backlash from the female community, backlash from other communities, and it wouldn't work as well for the serious tone DC is shooting for with this film. Deadshot repels from the roof exactly like Hawkeye. Deadshot has a "gritty" boxing scene, like Captain America. The Joker is played like an even more insane Loki by Jared Leto. Female Nick Fury answers to a council like, Fury, though less dramatic than Fury's (who is willing to Nuke New York City). She wants to "Assemble" a task force a people with special abilities. Now, I know this will be attacked. I'll be accused of being a Marvel Fanboy. Even though my oldest comics are DC, and the most comics I own are DC, and I read DC more than Marvel. Does that mean I'm a DC Fanboy? No. It means I want DC to do their own thing. Sure, what movie doesn't have similar scenes in the trailer? And what movie doesn't follow certain formats in their trailers to draw in the potential audience? But, come on, DC could do way better. This is their chance to stand out from the crowd. And that, my fellow readers and Comic Book/Comic Book Movie lovers, is something I sorely want.
