Heroes was a show ahead of its time in 2006. It was a superhero show before we even had a MCU. I don't think I have enjoyed a first season of a show as much as I enjoyed Heroes first season.

But then, I could never get through the second season. Which is why I am both excited and hesitant about this sequel/reboot of the show. It is also why I have to do some research before I watch this show. So, this is as much for me as it is for you. So, without further ado....

Here is everything we know about Heroes Reborn!

The Characters

Luke Collins and Joanne

Zachary Levi as Luke Collins
Zachary Levi as Luke Collins

Zachary Levi is the big name attached to this project. Like with the other new characters, there isn't a lot of details for his character. Most of them come from interviews or the official synopsis.

But the details we have, it seems Luke Collins isn't the nicest guy. He, along with Joanne, is trying to take revenge on EVOs (enhanced humans) because of an attack that was blamed on the EVOs. Joanne seems to have a lot of the same motives.

Here is what Levi told Screen Rant about his character.

“[Luke] is doing things for a reason, a reason that he’s convinced is the right thing to do, at least for the time being or whatever. But it’s a journey and I think all the characters in this show, they all start in one spot and they all end in another. It’s really big and a lot of things are going on. These things affect each of the characters. That definitely happens to my character as well. I so badly want to say more to all this, but it would be total spoiler alert and I’d get fired and that would be a bummer. Coming in as a wild card it’s like, ‘What is he going to do?’ And you get a little more leeway to play with that and to surprise people. I’m a big fan of surprising people. And scaring people! But surprising people… He’s complicated. But I think the complication is what makes it really intriguing. It was the most intriguing thing to me about the character. When I found out who they wanted me to play I was like, ‘Yes. That’s the character I would like to play."

Noah Bennet

Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet
Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet

Bennet, commonly called 'HRG', is played by returning Jack Coleman. Bennet, though not the only returning character, will be the one with the most screen time. Like in the original series, Bennet will help connect characters and story lines, while also knowing way more than he lets on.

At the start of the show, he will be off the grid. He will be out of the game. But, of course, he gets pulled right back in to it.

Creator Tim Kring had this to say about bringing back Coleman:

"I approached Coleman because he was a character who had a spine through the series that allowed you to meet new characters. So he’s a character I wanted to make sure had a little part at the beginning of this thing."

The New Kids

Tommy- Robbie Kay plays a high school kid who is dealing with a scary new power.

Peter Pan gained some new powers.

Emily- The girl of Tommy's dreams. But I guarantee that she has more to her. Not just everyone gets a poster. She is played by Gatlin Green.

Malina- A girl who finds out that she has a great destiny. And judging by the trailer (below), it sure seems like she does. Danika Yarosh plays her.

Carlos- Played by Ryan Guzman, he is a former soldier who starts to learn about what it means to be a hero.

A Villain and A Conspiracy Theorist

Let's start with the theorist, shall we? Quentin Frady is trying to track down Noah Bennet. He wants to expose the truth about a terrorist attack. Henry Zebrowski gets to play him.

Illuminati? Please say Illuminati.

Now the villain. Erica (played by Rya Kihlstedt) is the mysterious head of Renautas, a highly successful tech conglomerate. She has her own agenda. Doesn't that just sound like some kind of villain?

Doesn't she seem like a villain?

Other characters

There will some returning characters. Masi Oka (Hiro), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder), Jimmy Jean-Louis (the Haitian) and Christine Rose (Angela Petrelli) will all return for guest arcs. Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah) will also return. And now that he is 19, expect his arc to be a bit darker. Greg Grunberg will be back as the telepathic cop, Matt Parkman.

Nazneen Contractor will play Farah, "a mysterious character who is militant, tough and stoic." Eve Harlow, Dylan Bruce, Francesca Eastwood, Cle Bennet, and Pruitt Taylor Vince have all been cast in roles for the series.

The Story

Here is the official synopsis:

A year ago, a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, left the city decimated. Blamed for the tragic event, those with extraordinary abilities are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives.

Two such vigilantes include Luke (Zachary Levi, "Chuck") and Joanne (Judith Shekoni, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2"), who are seeking to avenge a tragic loss.

Noah Bennet, aka H.R.G. (Jack Coleman, "Heroes"), has gone off the grid but conspiracy theorist Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski, "A to Z") finds him and opens his eyes to the truth behind the Odessa tragedy.

While in hiding, some are discovering their newfound skills. Awkward teen Tommy (Robbie Kay, "Once Upon a Time") just wants to be normal and win the girl of his dreams, Emily (Gatlin Green, "Criminal Minds"), but normalcy is virtually impossible after learning of a new ability that terrifies him. Coming from a very sheltered upbringing, a bold and ethereal teenager, Malina (Danika Yarosh, "Shameless"), has been told she is destined for greatness. In Tokyo, a quiet and unique young woman, Miko (Kiki Sukezane, "Death Yankee 3"), is trying to track down her missing father while hiding an extraordinary secret that will make her a force to be reckoned with. Elsewhere, a different type of hero is emerging through former soldier Carlos (Ryan Guzman, "The Boy Next Door").

Meanwhile, Erica (Rya Kihlstedt, "Masters of Sex"), the head of the highly successful tech conglomerate Renautas, has an agenda of her own.

For better or for worse, some are fated to cross paths with assorted heroes of the past, including Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), among others. Yet, together, their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world and mankind.

Joining Kring are executive producers James Middleton ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") and Peter Elkoff ("Sons of Anarchy"). "Heroes Reborn" is produced by Imperative Entertainment, in association with Universal Television.

The show takes place five years after the end of the first series. Here is the trailer.

And now a

Want to know why Clare Bennet won't be back? Well, first Hayden Panettiere is busy. Second, she died a year before the show starts. Kring said this at the TCAs:

“In the real world of the story, [her character Claire Bennet] died a year prior to our story starting. That gets into some of the mythology that’s attached to the original show.”

Kring also had this to say about the five year jump and the unexpected cancellation of the original show.

“It was almost an obligatory baton pass to where we needed to go from there,” Kring recalled of the series finale. “Because we didn’t get to have that fifth season, I did always have that in my mind that there was an unfinished nature to it… This world has become a very different place. There’s something really great about this: This is not the fifth season, this is actually the 10th season as if there were seasons in-between. I had always wanted to tell the story of when the world discovers these people.”
