When FIFA International Soccer was released by Electronic Arts in 1993, little did people know that about 20 years later FIFA will be one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time. However, with total sales of over 100 millions worldwide, the FIFA series are becoming more and more popular every year.
FIFA 16 is definitely no exception. With plenty of interesting new features and some tweaks in gameplay, this year's edition promises to be one to remember. With that in mind, here are 3 things that we know so far about FIFA 16:
1. There will be new additions to Career Mode.
This year's Career Mode will give us the option to play pre-season tournaments in Asia, Europe and North or Latin America. During these tournaments we will also be able to work on skills, lineups and tactics or even boost the team's budget if we win.
Moreover, within this mode we can train up to five players a week by doing various practice drills that can improve their skills and attributes. Other intriguing new features include the capacity to sign free agents outside of the transfer windows, being able to make an unlimited number of substitutions in friendlies, as well as more realistic player values and transfer budgets (based on team performance).
2. The game is the first in the FIFA series to include female players. It is also the first in which the players on the covers were chosen by fan vote.
FIFA 16 will feature 12 women's national teams: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and the United States. However, gamers won't have the opportunity to create mixed-gender teams or play women's teams against men's teams. Nevertheless, we will be able to use women's teams in offline or online friendlies and an offline tournament inspired by the FIFA Women's World Cup.
FIFA 16 designers used players such as USWNT stars Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux and Megan Rapinoe, as well as Australian defender Steph Catley to record the typical movements of female footballers. In addition, a lot of female players have been head scanned in order to create a more realistic look.
3. There will be a new mode - FIFA 16 Ultimate Team Draft.
Humorously presented by Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville & Jamie Carragher in the video above, the FUT Draft is a new version of FIFA 16 Ultimate Team that lets you build a team from a five player draw, while also choosing a formation and a captain, as well as substitutions.
With this team you can play in single player matches or online in a four-game season, while earning rewards along the way. It will cost 15,000 coins, 300 FIFA Points or 1 Draft Token to start a FIFA Ultimate Draft season, but even if you lose you’ll gain what you have lost back to play again, which is really cool.
