The demise of Sarah Lance on The CW's Arrow received as many mixed reactions as the character herself, but somehow, all of us knew that she'd return. With tiny elements of mysticism plotted away over the past season, the subject of The Lazarus Pit and what it does exactly -- or what can go wrong -- have only been lightly brushed over.
But, with Constantine's highly anticipated one-shot appearance in Star City, that might very well change. In fact, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has put a huge focus on the otherworldly coming to Arrow's hometown in recent interviews:
Each year on the show, we have added and expanded the mythology with different elements. In Season 2 we introduced the idea of superpowers, last year brought in the League of Assassins, and for Season 4, we always had a plan to introduce magic and mysticism. We were already swimming in those waters and that's why Constantine is this great organic little development.
Not sure where he's going with that? In the next few moments, Guggenheim practically spells out some of the plot for fans, giving us a good idea of what to expect from Constantine (and even White Canary) when he visits Oliver Queen:
Unlike Thea, who wasn’t fully dead, the consequences of using the pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties ... and John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those.
Guggenheim went on to describe his excitement for the character's appearance on the show, talking about the spike in demand from die-hard Hellblazers and the support from DC, which was "magnanimous and generous in giving us this one-time dispensation. The trench coat, the tie, the shirt -- the whole wardrobe is being taken out for storage and shipped up to Vancouver."
While Constantine's episode hasn't been announced just yet, fans can catch up with Arrow on October 7th.
