It's sad but true that we're all obsessed with celebrity relationships - whether it's sex rumors, cheating scandals or whispers of potential break-ups, we want to know all the juicy details.
And thankfully for our sake, in Hollywood, it seems that every few months, a new bout of divorce rumors surface - only this summer, have we seen the breakdown of Gwen Stefani's marriage, as well as the catastrophe that was Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's break-up, for example.
Yet, while many couples choose to keep their lips sealed when it comes to personal problems, others go out of their way to convince us that such speculations are all exaggerated lies.
The following 8 celebrity couples were forced to defend themselves, and while some fervently denied that there was trouble in paradise to then have the inevitable happen, others boldly withstood hostile rumors, proving that love conquers all.
1. Russell Brand & Katy Perry
Brand aggressively denied any marital problems between himself and the pop star on The Ellen Degeneres Show, saying:
"I'm really happily married … I'm married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I'm still alive."
A week later, sadly they were through. So much for that.
2. Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith
For years and years, Will and Jada have continued to be sharked by the paparazzi, who adamantly escalate any rumors that the couple's marriage is in jeopardy. Yet, time and time again, the duo has put break-up speculations to bed and in typical celebrity fashion, they issued a statement that said:
"Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact."
Will also posted this amazing message on his Facebook the other week:
Good for them, let's hope it stays that way!
3. Madonna & Guy Ritchie
In July 2008, Madonna fought back speculation that she was divorcing her husband Guy, putting it simply:
"My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce."
2 months later, they were no more.
4. Paul McCartney & Heather Mills
Back in 2006, when rumors were circulating that the former Beatle and his wife were calling it quits, Heather Mills laughed it all off:
"It's hilarious. Of course we are together. Paul and I are still very much together. Paul and I are together 100 percent."
Clearly this was a lie because a week later, unfortunately, the couple said this:
"Having tried exceptionally hard to make our relationship work given the daily pressures surrounding us, it is with sadness that we have decided to go our separate ways."
5. Kim Kardashian & Kanye West
Last New Year, Kimmy K decided to take to Twitter to grace us with her impeccable grammar, as well as claims that those pesky divorce rumors most definitely weren't true. She wrote:
"Kanye & I are not having marriage problems. Were literally obsessed with each other!”
Well, clearly she was telling the truth (albeit via questionable writing skills) because the two are still together and expecting another baby. Hooray!
6. Britney Spears & Kevin Federline
When Britney and K-Fedz's very public marriage came crashing down, she shrugged it all off:
"I try not to respond to trash."
Watch the full interview and see her awkwardly deny the rumors herself here:
And guess what happened approximately 6 months later? They filed for divorce.
Poor Brit, oops, she did it again.
7. Carmen Electra & Dave Navarro
Literally only a few months before they announced their separation, Carmen issued this statement:
"We're fine! I'm not saying we have the perfect marriage or that we're the perfect couple, but we're pretty damn good."
I don't think you were fine at all, Carmen. Nice try though.
8. Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore
It was very clear that for quite some time, Ashton and Demi's relationship had been at rock bottom. But kudos for them for trying to salvage their 6-year marriage by attending marriage counseling. During this time, Kutcher shot down all the haters on Twitter:
"When you ASSUME to know that which you know nothing of you make an A** out of U and ME."
Nobody believed his clever play on words though and Demi filed a divorce a month later, leaving her on the verge of breakdown and in a very bad way indeed.
