The second trailer for Season 9 of Doctor Who was released quite recently and raised a few questions. I'm going to try to break down some of the more interesting points from the teaser. So, get ready for a lot of speculation, and even more pictures! Also know that I may not be too linear with my assessment...because...well, trailers from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint are...well...just a big ball of wibbly-wobbly-timey wimey...stuff. Anyway, let's move on to some things seemingly involving the season opener!

Still can't get the helmets right.
Still can't get the helmets right.

The first portion of the teaser dealt with what can be presumed to be the season's first and second episodes ("The Magician's Apprentice" and "The Witch's Familiar"), and is set in an ancient Scandinavian village.

Here we see more of the Viking architecture, but a very, very interesting group of soldiers. What could they be? Well, I'm not certain, but the armor resembles that of the Judoon. We seem to be seeing a lot of old enemies returning (we'll get to that later), so it's not impossible for this to be a squad of space-rhino police.

Loch Ness?
Loch Ness?

Once again, we see the Viking decor, but there happens to be an elephant in the room. Well, more like a sea monster...what will be interesting to see is whether or not this "monster" is alien, and what the armored troops may want with it.

The better to see you with, my dear.

This is one of the creepiest things the trailer showed us. My thoughts on this are a long shot, but hear me out. Remember how Peter Capaldi was in "Fires of Pompeii" back in Season Four? Remember the rumors that the show would deal with that discrepancy in Season Nine? These "hands" remind me a great deal of the tattoos on the Sibyline sisters from that episode. What if this has some sort of relation to that? Crazy, I know, but we've seen weirder.

Yes, though this is no surprise, Missy is back. There's another shot of her staring down a Dalek, but I can't tell if she is working with them, or fighting with the Doctor against them. Then there's the entirely possible theory that "Magician's Apprentice" and "Witch's Familiar" refer to the Doctor and Missy. Whatever happens, expect her to cause some sort of mischief.

Looks like Clara starts working for U.N.I.T. Which is really cool, but how else would she get a hold of a bazooka? My question is: why is she so smug, and what on earth is she getting ready to blow up? It is good to see her being something more than emotional and angsty.

Speaking of U.N.I.T., looks like they'll be a key factor in the coming season. Just as a side note, the Doctor has looked more carefree and fun. You'll see what I'm talking about in a later picture.

I'd like a rematch, Doctor.

I don't know about you, but this smells of Sycorax to me. Remember them? They showed up in one episode, where David Tennant quoted Lion King at them, and then he killed their king in a sword fight. It looks like they've received an upgrade, but if this isn't Sycorax, then I will be very surprised.

Doctor Who: Sharknado?
Doctor Who: Sharknado?

Not sure who or what this is, but it looks amazing! There are several new aliens that will show up in this season, but this looks like modern-day England. What this shark-man is doing here, or what he actually is remains to be seen, but I have a feeling it will be pretty epic. And don't forget that this could totally mean an Aquaman/Doctor Who cross-over. Right? Right? On that note...let's move on.

Pink and blue? He needs to rethink his life...

Yes, the arch-enemies of the Doctor are back. It's good to see the Daleks back in the show, and I love the return to classic colors (the gray/blue Daleks in the back). I'm curious to see if this is a new paradigm, however just from their appearance, this would seem to indicate that this isn't the case. The Daleks we saw towards the end of Eleven's tenure were much larger. These are more like the first three seasons' salt shakers.

Speaking of Daleks, this would appear to be a city for the killing machines. While the architecture is almost Gallifreyan (that was my first thought), it does resemble Dalek physiology and if you look closely, you can see little specks flying in a similar pattern to Daleks. Will we see the Doctor return to the Time War? Or is there a Dalek city just sitting around in some desert? We'll have to wait and see.

It seems that Twelve has a new favorite accessory: sunglasses. They show up several times in the trailer, and it would seem that it's like Eleven's bow tie, or Five's celery stalk.

Finally, we see more of what would appear to be the Doctor's daughter, played by Maisie Williams. Though it's not been confirmed (and I assume will be a large plot point of Season Nine), she seems to be his cloned daughter, Jenny, from way back in Season Four.
