"Let it go, let it go, can't hold it back any more!"
Tada! Now that song is stuck in your head, am I right? Every generation has their favorite movies, and with these movies come our favorite songs. There have been many different styles of music over the years, and as the styles have changes, so have the theme songs to our favorite films. In the '80s, we were blessed with amazing movies! Through some of the best movies of the decade came some of the best music. These are just some of the many top songs from the decade's movies!
'Ghostbusters' from Ghostbusters (1984)
This is one of the few movies with ghosts that I can handle. I hate horror, but I liked this movie! Its song is very catchy, and no matter what, if you say "who you gonna call?" I am going to scream "GHOSTBUSTERS!" This song, according to Wikipedia, was #2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1984.
'Footloose' from Footloose (1984)
This song is so much fun! From the movie about a city boy coming into a country town, 'Footloose' is sure to make even your grandpa tap a toe or two! Kenny Loggins is a legend. He performed this song for Kevin Bacon's character, but he also did one more on my list! 'Footloose' won a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1985, but according to Wikipedia, it was ranked #1 in 1984.
'Danger Zone' from Top Gun (1986)
Another amazing song by Kenny Loggins! I love Top Gun, and this is my driving theme music. This is one of those songs that becomes stuck in your head, but I don't really mind! It has a great action feeling to it, which made it perfect for this movie. Unlike his previous song, this one didn't win an award. However, it did hit #2 on the U.S. Billboard in 1986.
'Don't You (Forget About Me)' from The Breakfast Club (1985)
This song, written by Simple Minds, was The Breakfast Club's theme song. It also played in the credits. The above music video has got to be one of the best I have ever seen. It's hilarious, but you keep watching it and listen to the song! Another reason I love this song is because it's a great dancing song! My boyfriend and I are incredibly rhythmically challenged, so when we dance, we are literally just spinning each other around in circles. However, that works for this song!!
'(I've Had) The Time of My Life' from Dirty Dancing (1987)
The grand finale from the 1980s romance Dirty Dancing, 'The Time of My Life' was a song that made every girl wish for a handsome Johnny Castle. This song not only won a Grammy for Best Duet, but it also won an Academy Award. It was one of the best movies from the decade, and should be remembered for many more years.
We all have songs that help us remember our favorite movies. These are the songs we sing at the top of our lungs when we are home alone, and the ones that help us remember our younger years. There are many other great songs from '80s movies, and I know I that I am missing some.
Which leaves just one question...
