Disney fans around the globe had a unanimous heart attack with last year's joyous announcement of a fourth installment to the beloved Toy Story franchise. Ever since, fans have been speculating non stop about what the new Pixar adventure could possibly bring. How could they possibly top the tear jerking ending from Toy Story 3? Will the gang visit Andy in college? What shenanigans will they get into with Bonnie? Will they be threatened by the rise of the digital age?
Well, sadly we still have to wait until 2017 for full details, but John Lasseter has gifted us with at least one huge juicy detail regarding Toy Story 4. During an interview at Disney's D23 Expo, director and Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter dropped a bomb by stating that the upcoming sequel is "a love story with Woody and — and this is news — Bo Peep!"
Throughout the franchise, it was pretty obvious that Woody and Bo had a definite relationship going, but for whatever reason, she was either donated or given away prior to the third film, much to Sheriff Woody's dismay.
Woody: "We've lost friends along the way... Wheezy... and Etch and..."
Rex: "Bo Peep?"
Woody: "...Yeah. Even - even Bo."
While Buzz and Jessie's fling in Toy Story 3 brought an extra sizzle of romance to the story, it's always been a known fact that fans want details on Woody and Bo's obvious but unexplained relationship.
With the incredible news now out, let the inevitable internet speculation begin! With Bo Beep MIA in the third film, Toy Story 4 may be set in the past, showing the story that led to Bo and Woody's first meeting. The film could also be flashback heavy, with the main plot being heavily dependent on but not directly focused on the relationship. Of course, the entire movie could revolve around the two love birds' epic journey to be reunited once more! Hopefully Buzz and Jessie are still an item so the two couples can enjoy some awesome double dates!
Whatever speculations and theories pop up, fans can rest assured that the narrative lies in trustworthy hands. As Lasseter goes on to say:
"We come up with a story that's as good or better than the original. That's our rule. We don't do things just to print money."
With the Pixar powerhouse taking care of animation and creative genius Lasseter at the helm, Toy Story 4 will undoubtedly become a romance for the ages!
