D23 Expo is heading into it's fourth year with more action, drama, and Disney fun than ever before. While Friday's lineup of amazing
1. Buzz Lightyear from the Macy's Day Parade!
Disney lovers were given a chance to see one of the iconic floats from New York City's Macy's Day Parade as they entered the convention center. Buzz Lightyear has been part of the parade since 1998, and while his initial inflation may have hit a few snags, he was off to infinity and beyond above the crowd by the time fans began pouring in/
2. The Rock on Moana
It's been known for some time that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would be involved with a few Disney projects, but fans certainly didn't expect him to show up at a Disney event. The walking hulk-like charmer took the stage to talk about [Moana](tag:2366693), Disney's upcoming film installment to it's long line of Princess-led masterpieces. He was more than excited to be part of the cast, and described his character, Maui, a legendary demi-god who assists Moana on her quest to become a Wayfinder.
Johnson snapped selfies with the crowd and discussed his how important the film was to him due to his heritage, and expanded on his role in the film:
Born a human, raised by the gods. Never one or the other, Maui has always been stuck in the middle. Maona might be the person to find his true self.
3. Johnny Depp's Surprise Visit!
The Disney Legends Awards Ceremony was the very first item on the show's schedule, and it was amazing. With names like George Lucas and Danny Elfman heading in to accept awards, fans were certain that something amazing would happen -- and it came in the form of a surly swashbuckler. Johnny Depp surprised the dreary morning audience with a guest appearance, and the crowd went wild.
Disney Chairman Bob Iger introduced the actor with a perky sense of suspense, because, as he said, "there's nothing D23 fans like more than a surprise."
After that, Depp hit the stage to accept his award and completely charmed the audience - as you do, when you're Johnny Depp.
"So, I don't know why I'm here, I really don't. It's an absolute honor to be here ...
[as Jack Sparrow] And in all honesty, the only reason I suppose I am here --
A mosquito! Did you guys see that?"
4. The Collector's Frenzy
One of the biggest attractions at D23 Expo is the very unique collector's frenzy; that arguably rivals the wild rush of running onto Comic-Con's show floor on preview night. From pins, to figurines, to the latest spin on the classic Mickey ear hat, D23 Expo's collector base is a passionate group of people that know exactly what they're doing. Much like the rest of the park-loving Disney fandom, pins are so popular that they even serve as currency through trade.
Unlike most conventions, D23 Expo exclusives almost always remain that way, attracting collectors and vendors alike who are hungry for the unique souvenirs.
5. A Goofy Movie's 20th Anniversary Reunion
This may be my personal bias. In fact, this is my personal bias. But look -- A Goofy Movie has just turned 20 years old, and it is a staple of my generation's animated entertainment. An endearing story about Father and Son, A Goofy Movie radically deepened Goofy as a character, and took the opportunity to develop cartoons into characters.

The reunion was a warm affair at Stage 23, with Bill Farmer (Goofy), Jason Marsden (Max), Jim Cummings (Pete), Rob Paulsen (P.J.), Jenna Van Oy (Stacey) and writer Jymm Magon.
Along with the usual recaps, memories and interviews, the panel had a few surprises up it's glove -- namely, free cheese whiz served by Marsden himself, and an explosive Powerline concert with singer Tevin Campbell at the end.
