The Fantastic Four reboot has bombed, and Fox's plans for a sequel and crossover with the X-Men have seriously been damaged. Also this year, Terminator: Genisys' performance may have taken out chances of more films in the franchise. The thing is, this has happened a lot in the past. Films that are expected to bring in the cash have sequels planned before they even come out, and their failure seriously messes it all up. Here's some cases of that happening.

1. Batman and Robin- Batman Triumphant

That film was awful. Clooney out.
That film was awful. Clooney out.

The Batman films slowly deteriorated throughout the 90's, and by the time they tried to make it work with George Clooney in Batman and Robin, the franchise had reached it's lowest point, with many lists since naming Batman and Robin the worst film of all time. That isn't true in my opinion, but it was terrible. The sequel was already planned. It was meant to be named Batman Triumphant, and was set to have Scarecrow as the main villain, with an appearance from Harley Quinn planned also. Fortunately we were all spared.

2. Gremlins 2- Gremlins 3

Gremlins 2 is over? So happy.
Gremlins 2 is over? So happy.

After the big success that was Gremlins, there was certainly some expectation for the sequel. However it bombed terribly, and the early stage of development for a third installment was quickly put to a stop.

3. Green Lantern- Green Lantern 2

Yeah... sorry guys.
Yeah... sorry guys.

Ryan Reynolds would be the first to tell you just how bad his Green Lantern film was.

But it was originally set to have a sequel, because it was originally set to kick start the DCEU. That didn't work, thank God, but it would be interesting to see the finished script they had for the sequel... actually maybe not.

4. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer- Fantastic Four 3

Why is Captain America on fire?
Why is Captain America on fire?

As it turns out, the curse of the Fantastic Four movies may be having sequels planned before the film comes out. Before the second installment of the reboot before this one came out, there were plans for a third film, and, although there was never anything official released, various members of the cast and production crew expressed interest in introducing Frankling Richards, Black Panther, Skrulls, Annihilus, The Negative Zone, Puppet Master and even the Inhumans.

5. Golden Compass- The Subtle Knife

Why did this happen?
Why did this happen?

The original trilogy of books were all supposed to be adapted into films. The second book, The Subtle Knife, was next, but unfortunatly the low gross of the first film, as well as ending in a place far off from the beginning of the second book, derailed that.

6. Superman Returns- Superman Returns Again?

Maybe ATOM is for me...
Maybe ATOM is for me...

I know. This is a real bullet dodged for everyone. The sequel was rumoured to contain other Kryptonians, as well as either Brainiac or Bizarro as the main villain. Let's just think about that film, and then really appreciate Man of Steel.

7. The Cat in the Hat- The Cat in the Hat Returns?

Oh no you didn't make that movie!
Oh no you didn't make that movie!

I would have given up on Hollywood if this had happened. I am assuming the name, because that was the next Dr Seuss book the Cat in the Hat was in. What would it have contained? The worst, most terrible, sheerly horrific things you can think of. That is all I will say about that.

8. Terminator Salvation- Terminator Salvation 2?

Shoot that sequel in the face!
Shoot that sequel in the face!

Finally, I think it interesting to see that the two films I mentioned at the beginning of this article, Fantastic Four (2005) and Terminator: Genisys, are both reboots of films that were meant to have sequels. This may prove that both franchises are not working, and should be given up (or returned to Marvel? Don't get me wrong, I loved this Fantastic Four, but it Fox aren't going to do a sequel then just give it up). The Terminator: Salvation sequel would have contained... no idea. Probably something similar to Genisys, but a couple of years earlier...
