Jena Malone appears with Richard Gere in Time Out of Mind, a drama about a homeless man struggling to re-connect with his estranged daughter.

The film also stars Kyra Sedgwick, Ben Vereen and Steve Buscemi.

Richard Gere plays George, a mentally ill, unemployable man who drifts through the streets of New York City.

Jena Malone is Maggie, who occasionally comes in contact with her father through his constant drifting. Each time she sees her father, she nixes his attempts to communicate with her.

George befriends another homeless man, played by Ben Vereen, who urges George not to persist in his quest to get back in his daughter’s life.

Time Out of Mind, distributed by IFC Films, appears in theaters on September 11, 2015 and will be available On Demand on September 18, 2015.

The subjects of homelessness and mental illness, which are nearly always intertwined, are not high on movie fans list of film themes. Subsequently, don’t look for this film to rake in a lot of money at the box office.

On the other hand, small, challenging films like Time Out of Mind are often taken seriously among critics and serious film aficionados. Look for it to get at least some consideration during the upcoming awards season.

Richard Gere next stars in Oppenheimer Strategies. The release date has yet to be announced.

Jena Malone next appears in [The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2](tag:449866), which will be released on November 20, 2015.
