So, yesterday, before the [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409) footage was even shown at the D23 Expo, the Internets claimed to have a description of said footage that would be shown. I, like many others, took the Internet at the Internet's word. Even wrote an article about it.
I was wrong. Sorry about that....
Pieced together from different websites, here is my li'l interpretation of the trailer description until the actual thing comes down from Asgard....
‘What would you call a group of enhanced individuals who inflict their will anywhere they choose?’ someone asks in a voice-over at the beginning of the trailer footage.
The footage next shows Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow in position, surveying a busy city street. Falcon deploys a flying drone that swoops down into traffic and under a truck. This is obviously Redwing.I love the idea of a unmanned drone (probably Stark- made) serving as Falcon's eyes and ears.
The truck’s occupants are Brock "Crossbones" Rumlow and his HYDRA mercenaries, and a large battle ensues. Crossbones, in addition to his tactical gear and helmet, has some kind of robotic exoskeleton that gives him superhuman strength. Perhaps it's made from a destroyed Ultron drone?
‘You know, he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky,’ Crossbones reveals at the end of the fight scene. I do believe the 'Your Bucky' line made the Internet explode.
‘What did you say?’ Cap asks. You know at this point he's remembering Bucky during WWII. Another site mentioned seeing WWII Howling Commando footage, with the two of them fighting side-by-side in the snow.
We hear General "Thunderbolt" Ross’ voice, “The world owes you an unpayable debt,” he says. “But some people use the world vigilante. People are afraid.” I am so happy to see Ross after such a long absence after the Hulk movie.
You gotta wonder if they're going to turn Ross into the Red Hulk at some point during the movie.
We see Bucky in the same room from the end of Ant-Man. Apparently Cap is trying to make Bucky remember who he is and who Cap is. Bucky tells him: "Your mother's name is Sarah ... and you used to stuff newspapers in your shoes."
And at some point, Bucky fights alongside Cap and his Avengers.
As does Sharon Carter, now in the employ of the CIA (and niece of Peggy Carter).
Vision, dressed in a tuxedo sitting by a chess board. And, yes, I know that's Agent Carter's Jarvis. But he is the basis for the AI that Iron Man's Jarvis used to be.
I do have an image of Vision (as in Avengers Age of Ultron) with his robotic face but in a custom-made Stark tuxedo.
There’s a funeral. The coffin has a Union Jack on it. This has to be Peggy Carter's funeral--as she's British and served the Allies during and after WWII (at both the SSR and SHIELD).
As Marvel fans, we have to be thinking about Peggy in her own TV series.
Tony Stark looks at Cap, “Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth,” he says. Best line in the entire description of the trailer.
“Without boundaries,” Stark says, “We’re no better than the bad guys.”
We also see Black Panther, played by Chadwick Bozeman, in full costume — though all we see is a split second, in which he extends his claws.
There’s a shot of War Machine with Iron Man!
“We’re still friends, right?” asks Black Widow. “It depends on how hard you hit me!” says Hawkeye. This description kills me. Is Widow really on Iron Man's side? Would she fight her best friend?
Scott Lang, AKA Ant-Man geeks out: “I know you know a lot of super people,” says Lang. “So thinks for thanking of me! I mean, thanks for thinking of me!” Fanboy.
Apparently, there is no Spider-Man footage: I guess Marvel is saving that part for last.
And no footage of Iron Man fighting Captain America.
Or even mentioning the Registration Act itself!
Or perhaps, The Accords as they're called in Ant-Man.
