Naughty Dog are fortunate to have such an engaged and supportive community around their games. Fans of both Uncharted and The Last of Us are frequently engaged in discussions about the merits of both game series, and their futures. In the case of The Last of Us 2, fans are often in agreement about some of the narrative and gameplay changes they'd love to see implemented for the game's inevitable release date on PS4.
So I thought I'd run through some of the most requested updates from the Naughty Dog community, to see whether you agree that these changes need to happen. However, the one aspect that seemingly creates the most contention is the discussion around Joel and Ellie. Should they return? Should we see brand new protagonists in the sequel? Let us know where you stand in the comments!
The Last of Us 2 - What Changes Do You Want For Release Date?
Rather than focusing on the story changes that I myself and others would love to see, I shall focus upon the gameplay updates that fans have requested. If you want to engage in the discussion of whether The Last of Us 2 should feature a new protagonist from the previous game for its release date, check out this article here. Or if you think that the idea of having The Last of Us 2 set outside of America is interesting, let us know here!
One aspect of The Last of Us that I think a lot of gamers agree on is that the games' AI wasn't up to scratch. If you compare the AI with other aspects of the game, it doesn't live up to the expectations that Naughty Dog created. Enemies couldn't detect your companions, those who helped you in gun fights were mostly useless, and seeing how your enemies acted in battle broke your immersion. Why does every enemy spray bullets like there's infinite ammo out there? Enemies should be better shots with less ammo in The Last of Us 2 - it is the apocalypse after all.
Another update players would love to see kinda changes the approach that Naughty Dog took to making The Last of Us, so I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Players believe that there should have been a lot more narrative moments that occurred with you in control. There weren't enough sections of the game that let you off your leash and allowed you to engage with an emotional moment with you in control of Joel or Ellie. It was almost always cinematics.
The Last of Us is obviously a very cinematic game, Naughty Dog were masterful in their execution. But I think a lot of us would love to see certain scenes play out with us in control. This way we can look where we want to and interact with a scene how we desire. Naughty Dog needs to relinquish a bit more control to the player in The Last of Us 2. It's an effective way of immersing us into the world in a way that cinematics can't. Let us know what you think in the comments!
Story - Joel & Ellie
Where do you stand on the whole Joel and Ellie debate? Do you think a sequel would dilute the power of the initial game, or are you dying to see them on another adventure? Personally, I think that Naughty Dog should focus on new characters within the same universe for the sequel, but that's just me.
