Even though the release of Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens looms ever closer, there are still plenty of mysteries surrounding Episode VII; and I am sure these mysteries will not be revealed until the film hit theaters. The secrets behind The Force Awakens are numerous but the one point that definitely has every Star Wars fans' attention is the mystery surrounding the new antagonist: Kylo Ren.

Kylo Ren is without a doubt the film's poster child as this villain has been, and will be, present in all advertisement for The Force Awakens. Since the character appeared in the film's first teaser wielding his crossguard lightsaber, fans and moviegoers alike have tried to deduce just who is Kylo Ren. While there is still much we do not know about this character, some details have now been brought to light.

Last week in a interview with Entertainment Weekly, director J.J. Abrams shared with the magazine new information about Kylo Ren's character. For starters much of Ren's character, both behind the scenes and in the context of the film, will pay tribute to the iconic Sith Lord: Darth Vader. Though hearing that Ren is a “Vader Fan” does trouble me to a degree, this was not the bit of information that I found so interesting.

As it turns out Kylo Ren is not a name but in fact a title. Revealed by Abrams Kylo is part of a group known as “The Knights of Ren”. What the organization is and how it will effect the Star Wars universe is still unknown, but this new detail is quite the eye opener for The Force Awakens. There are a great deal of possibilities of what role these shadowy villains will play; so for now here some point that I see with the latest on Kylo and The Knights of Ren

The Title of Ren

As stated Kylo Ren is a title and not a name (so to speak). From looking at the details it seems that the Knights of Ren will have titles much like the Sith Lords take the name “Darth”. While it is the same concept it does however take a different by switching the manner of the title This is a good direction as it not only give the Knights of Ren both a sense of individuality and reflection, but it may also bring something refreshing for fans to see.

If the filmmakers really want go a different route with the knights of Ren then a good move would be for the upcoming film(s) to address where the title of Ren originates. That would be a fantastic detail to add to both the group and the character of Kylo Ren. Then again this may all depend on how The Knights of Ren use this title as it could easily be just Kylo Ren using this particular mantle. It depends on which direction the filmmakers go with this concept. However, whether it is the whole organization or just Kylo, the concept of the Ren Title is a good move on The Force Awakens' behalf as it could be both something new and familiar.

The First Order

Earlier this year, we discovered that the main threat in The Force Awakens will be known as The First Order. The First Order has been confirmed to be a remnant of the Galactic Empire. For some time now, The First Order has worried me due to them being so connected with the Empire. However details of The Knights of Ren have eased my concerns. For starters The First Order has been confirmed to be a remnant seizing control oppose to them already ruling the galaxy.

The other detail that I feel is present is the involvement of the Knights of Ren. While this is speculation I do feel that the Knights of Ren's involvement with The First Order could make all the difference. In the world I think this best idea of this alliance would be for the Imperials to believe that are using Kylo Ren to their advantage, but in fact Kylo is using them for the sake of the Knights of Ren. This is similar to what Palpatine did with the Empire, but I do think that there is a way to have this comparison not be an issues.

I think that the Knights of Ren's involvement with the First Order should be completely within the shadows and not let the Imperials see the Knight's true motives. It is hard to say how much of an impact the knights of Ren will play in the upcoming Star Wars film, or how affiliated they will be with the First Order. I can only hope that the movie is clever in its approach with this secret organization and its relationship the Imperial Remnant.

Who is Kylo Ren?

Even with the new details that have emerged the question still remains: who is Kylo Ren? We know that Kylo Ren is not his real name; so with that in my mind, one cannot help but speculate on the identity of this villain. The way the filmmakers are going to about, it is likely that Kylo will be connected with the film's protagonists.

Yet how Kylo is connected with the main characters remains to be seen; but if his identity is (lets face it, it will be) be a particular one, then the movie is going to have go down a different path so that Ren is not a mere reflection of his predecessor.

The best thing to do is to reveal Kylo's real name in The Force Awakens. That way Kylo can differentiate himself from Vader, and it would give the villain a matter of complexity as he development throughout the new trilogy. The identity of Kylo Ren will definitely have an impact on fans, so I can only hope that filmmakers have thoroughly thought out Kylo's character rather then just having him as a Vader poser.

As it stands there is still much we do not know about Kylo and the Knights of Ren. For all we know Kylo could be connected to past characters and the Knights could be a new breed of Sith. Then again both the character and the organization could go down a different path. Whichever direction may be the outcome, I can only trust in the force that the filmmakers will give us villains to remember in the upcoming chapter in the Star Wars saga.

Who is Kylo Ren? What role do the Knights of Ren have to play? Write your thoughts down in the comments section.
