(Warning: Potential spoilers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice follow.)

Since the trailer of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was launched, the internet has been abuzz with fan theories, reaction videos, and building up hype every passing day. If you haven't seen it yet (come on dude, where have you been for the past month!?), then check it out below:

Despite giving us a good idea about what the movie might be, there are still some elements of the trailer which we can't seem to figure out the significance of. However, there finally might be an explanation for one such scene from the trailer.

According to Heroic Hollywood, a website who has known to have had quite reliable and correct information in the past, a major event to happen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been revealed.

More specifically, something to do with Lex Luthor. Which means its connected to Superman. Any guesses? Lets continue.

Apparently, Lex Luthor kidnaps Martha Kent.

Yes, thats right. While this may seem a little weird at the moment, lets see why it would make so much sense for this to happen!

First of all, let's take a flashback to Man of Steel. Superman gets really mad after General Zod threatens his mother, and beat him to a pulp. We all know how THAT turned out to be.

So whats the difference this time you ask? Why won't Superman do the same to Lex? After all, Lex Luthor doesn't have any superpowers, nor is he a fighting expert like Batman.

Well, the difference is, that Lex Luthor has 3 big advantages over Superman.

  • Firstly, he obviously has Martha Kent. If he has indeed abducted her, then he can do whatever he wants, torture or kill her. While Zod was making empty threats, and Superman was able to stop him, he wouldn't be able to stop Lex as he wouldn't know where his mother is being held. Which gives Lex Luthor a huge advantage over Superman.

  • Lex has Kryptonite

And that too, in an ENORMOUS amount. That much could seriously weaken Superman. He had already experienced helplessness in Man of Steel, when he was weakened by Zod. Something tells me he wasn't a big fan of it, and is not in a hurry to try it again.

  • Lastly, Lex Luthor has influence over the government. In the trailer, we see him talking to Senator Finch, who was also the judge of Superman's trial. Superman is already under constant monitoring by the government, and I seriously doubt that he would want another enemy at his heels.

These three factors will also explain why Superman was shown kneeling in front of Lex in the trailer.

So what do you think? Does it make sense to have this in the movie? I think it would be a perfect fit!
