Cult sci-fi and horror aficionado David A. Prior has died after what family members have called a "... long battle with failing heath."
Prior was one of the pioneers of direct-to-video budget horror, action and science fiction movies in the 1980s and 90s, although in more recent years he had also returned to filmmaking, directing Relentless Fury in 2014. He was also working on post-production for Assassin's Fury - a movie he wrote and directed - at the time of his death.
However, it will be his earlier work for which he will be best remembered, including titles such as War of The Living Dead, The Final Sanction, Night Trap and Deadly Prey. He is also recorded as the director of Sledgehammer, which is thought to the first ever shot-on-tape slasher. You can check out the extremely long trailer for Deadly Prey below:
David A. Prior died last weekend, shortly after his 59th birthday.
