The first two seasons of Marvel's [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](tag:722469) has seen Phil Coulson and company go through a lot of change and upheaval. None of the characters have escaped unscathed so far, but in the upcoming third season, it may be the seemingly unshakable Agent Melinda May that has the biggest crisis of faith.
Actress Ming-Na Wen has been hinting that a career change might be in order Agent May, and in a recent interview with TV Guide, she indicated she might be leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. completely:
In any situation when someone is so devoted to their work as May was, but then realizing over the last two years that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't really what she dedicated her life to. That there was definitely a lot of corruption to S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as uncertainty now with the Inhumans being brought in by Coulson. It's going to be figuring out her final decision in Season 3 and I think Andrew will probably play a part in it.
Last season, Blair Underwood joined the cast as May's estranged psychologist husband, Andrew Garner, who ended up rejoining S.H.I.E.L.D. as a liaison. It will set up an interesting dynamic between the pair, who, toward the end of season 2, had started to rekindle their romance, says Wen:
What's interesting is now May is disgruntled by S.H.I.E.L.D., but last season when May came to Andrew with the idea of coming back to S.H.I.E.L.D., he was disgruntled and had left the agency. But now he's back working with them and the Inhumans.
As the third season progresses, this storyline could become even more important as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sets the stage for [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409).
Season 3 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
