Even if I Google 'Miley Cyrus VMAs' when I'm 75, I'm pretty sure the first image to punch me in the eyeballs will be Miley's poor suffocating buttocks jiggling around in skin colored latex, but maybe that will all change when the eccentric pop star takes things into her own hands and hosts the VMAs this year.
Seeing as she's been in the pop game since she was a tween, Miley has racked up an impressive array of VMA appearances that chart her progression from Hannah Montana to neon colored, queer activist alien queen, and below is a roundup of what went on every year Miley strutted up MTV's red carpet.
2008 - Hannah Montana's Just Bein' Miley
In 2008, a 15-year-old Miley Cyrus strutted up the red carpet to victory as she nabbed a Best New Artist Award (beating both Katy Perry and Taylor Swift in the process).
She also hopped up on stage to introduce Pink and showed us all that sticking her tongue out is totally not a new thing. She just bein' Miley!
2011 - A Rockin' Frock
Miley didn't attend the VMAs in either 2009 or 2010, but she made a comeback in 2011. Cyrus wasn't nominated for any awards this year, but she did take to the stage with Shaun White (professional snowboarder and skateboarder) to present the Best Rock Video to Moonman.
2012 - Miley introduces Pink
After a dramatic change of image in 2012, Miley Cyrus once more stepped up onto the stage to introduce the powerhouse that is Pink with Mac Miller.
2013 - THAT Berserk Twerk
Of course, the MTV awards that everyone remembers in vivid technicolor, just like it was yesterday, is 2013 where Miley took to the stage for the first time and made the Smith family pull the best faces I've ever seen.
Along with twerking on Robin Thicke (I hope she got cream for that...) and phallically waggling a foam glove around, Miley also gave the world a peek at her off the wall art direction for the Bangerz tour. It is still undecided if the world was ready...
2014 - Raising Awareness
People were wildly speculating what Miley would get up to at the 2014 VMAs after the previous year, but nobody guessed she would invite a homeless man along as her date to accept her award and raise awareness of the plight of displaced young people.
This was clearly a defining moment for Miley and her encounter with Jesse Helt (who she met at the homeless charity My Friend's Place) probably paved the way for her creating the Happy Hippie Foundation.
Helt was later jailed for violating parole, but Cyrus continued to support him by accusing the media of:
"[choosing] to go after Jesse instead of covering the issue of youth homelessness. People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included."
2015 - The Hostess with the Mostess
Who knows what Miley will get up to as the host of the 2015 VMAs, I just hope that the venue is as colorful and demented as the series of recently released ads. Oh, and if you could have this flying cat rendered in animatronics, that would be greatly appreciated, Miley!
The Video Music Awards air on Sunday August 30.
