While the 2014 Godzilla film was the cause of many angered fans, mostly due to the lack of screen time for the huge monster, at least everyone can agree it was better than the ridiculous plots of the old Japanese Godzilla films, of which there were thirty.

Hell yeah!
Hell yeah!

However the plots were all absolutely atrocious, and involved everything from tiny singing twin fairies to Godzilla fighting the American version of himself. But the interesting thing my brother told me was that the upcoming sequel to Godzilla is set to star all of the same monsters as one of those old films. Here's who the creatures of this feature are set to be:

Godzilla (Obviously)

King Ghidorah

Thunderstruck!
Thunderstruck!

Mothra

Hm... okay.
Hm... okay.

Rodan

Not quite let the bass drop...
Not quite let the bass drop...

And it just so happens that in the 1964 film "Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster" stars these four monsters. Now, obviously I am not suggesting that all of the incredibly strange plot will be followed, but it is certainly possible that this film is inspiring the Gareth Edwards directed sequel.

Now one thing that you have to understand about the old Godzilla films is that there was almost always a incredulous side plot involving the humans, which in no way ever influenced the story of the monsters fighting. This one wasn't much different, and that's not the important part that could inspire the sequel, although I will say that it involved a princess being possessed by a Martian...

Oh God! The Cringe!
Oh God! The Cringe!

But onto more likely scenarios. The basic plot by way of the monsters is that Rodan came (out of a volcano...) and started to fly around. Godzilla came after him, and the two eventually battled it out. Meanwhile, King Ghidorah blasted out of a meteor (kind of plausible... I guess) and started causing massive destruction. Mothra (was actually summoned, but she could just sort of turn up I guess) arrives and gets Godzilla and Rodan to stop fighting, getting them to come together to defeat King Ghidorah, the enemy none of them can't defeat alone. I could also see Godzilla going up against Ghidorah on his own at some point, and failing because he isn't strong enough on his own. Sound like any epic team-up film you've ever seen?

It looks like Godzilla 2 may just have a lot of the same features as a Superhero team film, and that could make it pretty awesome! Especially if they leave the tiny twin fairies and the Martian possessed princess at home, and include more Monster screen time.
