Disney has ruled animated movies for nearly a hundred years, and now, their set to take some of their most iconic films and turn them into live action masterpieces. Some of the planned movies getting the live action treatment are completely expected, such as Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, and the Little Mermaid. However, some of the movies Disney plans on adapting are a bit more obscure, such as a Winnie the Pooh movie following an adult Christoper Robin, a movie about Chip n' Dale, and Night on Bald Mountain. There are some Disney animated movies that have not been announced yet, that would make perfect live action features. Some of the movies on this list are underrated and rather unknown, while others are Disney classics that surprisingly haven't been made into live action movies yet.

For this list I tried to limit the movies to mostly human casts, as these are live action adaptions, I also tried to find fan favorite movies that would aslo work very well as live action movies. So without further ado, I present the five Disney animated movies that deserve the live action treatment.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire

A rather unknown Disney product, Atlantis: The Lost Empire has quite the cult following. The story follows a young professor named Milo, voiced by Micheal J. Fox, and a group of explorers as they attempt to find the lost city of Atlantis. The movie did well enough to garner a direct-to-video sequel, though came out during Disney's slump in the early 2000's following their beloved renaissance era. The movie has a slew of great characters, including a hilarious explosions expert, a Atlantian princess, and a kick-ass female mechanic. The movie actually has a lot of strong female characters as stars of the movie, which is something many fans are desperately calling for.

Who Should Be in the Movie?

Mila and Princess Kida

The two characters that would be most important to cast wisely would be Milo and Princess Kida, both play important roles in the movie and have a lot of screen time. As the star, Milo would need to be played by someone with some star power, which is why I would propose Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He definitely has the acting abilities and looks the part well enough. The character of Kida is a bit more difficult to cast, I've decided to go with fan favorite Kat Graham, she's most famous for her work on the hit TV show The Vampire Diaries and only needs white hair to fit the part.

Hunchback of Notre Dame

This movie is absolutely phenomenal, has a wonderful plot based off of Victor Hugo's novel, and some of the best music Disney has ever made. The film screams to be made into a live action movie, in fact it has been done several times over. However, in traditional Disney fashion, some things were added to make the movie even better (such as talking gargoyles), all of which, if added to a live action version, would make a Disney's live action adaptation that much better.

Who Should be in the Movie?

Frollo and Esmeralda

Sir Ian Mckellen as the villain Frollo is a no brainier. He is easily one of the biggest names out there, and has the acting chops to prove he deserves any role ever. His portrayal of Magneto in the X-Men franchise shows he can play a villain extraordinarily well. Yet, Frollo also has to be charming and trustworthy, and Mckellen as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings franchise proves he can do just that. Esmeralda is a bit harder to cast, though look wise, Mila Kunis fits perfectly, she has lots of fans out there, and she has the acting resume to boot.

The Emperor's New Groove

This underrated Disney film is a must see! It has everything that makes a Disney movie great, and is arguably the funniest movie Disney has every made. Though it involves a talking llama, it still would work wonderfully as a live action picture. It's not like we haven't seen talking animals before. What makes the movie so great is the comedy, Kuzco (the emperor turned llama) and Pacha make an excellent duo, but some of the funniest moments come from the henchman Kronk.

Who Should be in the Movie?

Pacha and Kuzco

You know, sometimes original casting is the best casting. It would hard to replicate the chemistry these two men have together. In fact, even after 15 years both men could easily play live action versions of their characters without age being a factor. Pacha (played by John Goodman) is a father, so he can older, and David Spade doesn't look like he's aged a bit (plus he'd mostly be voicing a llama).

Hercules

Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies, it's got charm, it's got mythology, it's got comedy, it's got awesome music, what more do you need? The characters are great all around. Hercules is lovable, Meg is fantastic, Hades is sassy, Phil is funny, every character makes you fall in love with them and a live action version couldn't possibly fail.

Who Should be in the Movie?

Meg and Hercules

Though we've seen huge live action Hercules before (ahem Dwayne the Rock Johnson), Disney's version always seemed a bit leaner to me. A young and upcoming actor with plenty of muscle, and the charming personality Disney's Hercules has, is Robbie Amell. Robbie currently plays Firestorm in the CW's Flash but has quite the long list of credits to his name. Amell used to be an underwear model, which means he should have no problem wearing quite the revealing toga. As for the role of Meg, I think Emma Stone would be an excellent choice. She has the sassy, comedic timing down and could pull of the look quite well. Interesting note, both Amell and Stone have stared in superhero films!

Tarzan

Although Disney hasn't announced plans for a Tarzan movie yet, Dark Horse Entertainment is making a movie about Tarzan returning to the jungle after years of living in London. The 2016 movie will star Margot Robbie as Jane and Alexander SkarsgÄrd as Tarzan. However, what many fans have been dying to see is a adaptation of the wonderful 1999 animated Disney movie. The animated movie is just as classic as many of the other announced live action adaptations.

Who Should Be in the Movie?

Possible choices to play Tarzan and Jane

The two most important characters are easily Jane and Tarzan. There are plenty of people who could play either role, and Robbie and Skarsgard look set to be excellent portrayals. My top choice for the role of Tarzan would be Henry Cavill, he definitely has the acting chops to play the character and his role as Superman proves he has the physical characteristics and strength to play the King of the Jungle. As for Jane, Olivia Wilde seems to be a fan favorite across the internet. She definitely has the look to play Jane, she has a proven track record in the acting industry, and she's just a few years younger than Cavill. Both actors were said to be top choices for the 2016 movie as well.

We're set to see a lot of live action remakes of classic Disney movies. I hope these five films don't get overlooked as Disney looks to build a large collection of live action movies.
