"Dis," when you see these three letters put together, you think Disney am I right? Well, after reading through this article, you are bound to think of the new, Dismaland. Yes, you read that correctly, and it is quite the opposite of Disneyland.
The "Bemusement Park" at Weston-super-Mare in south-west England is courtesy of British street artist Banksy and tagged "The UK's most disappointing new visitor attraction!"
The park will open to the public soon, where visitors can have a souvenir photo taken in Cinderella's Castle against a backdrop of a dead princess in a coach crash surrounded by paparazzi, while depressing stewards carry bunches of balloons labelled "I'm an imbecile."
The art pieces which can be found in the park are from artists from Israel, Palestinian territories and Syria hand-picked by Banksy, whose identity has never been revealed.
He described the park as "a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism" that was not suitable for children.
"It's not a swipe at Disney," he said in a statement. "I banned any imagery of Mickey Mouse from the site. It's a showcase for the best line-up of artists I could imagine, apart from the two who turned me down."
The @dismaland_park Instagram account is giving an amazing insight into Dismaland.
Organizers say the show will offer an escape from mindless escapism. What does it all mean? “I guess you’d say it’s a theme park whose big theme is – theme parks should have bigger themes,” said Banksy.
The festival of art is open to the public for a cheap price. Definitely worth checking out the website (www.dismaland.co.uk) for more information.
